Headed to a meeting...

This one should be especially interesting. It's a speaker meeting and the speaker is a woman who contributed her story to the Big Book. Perfect way to mark my 100th day!

It was a very interesting meeting! (For those who read the Big Book, her story is called "Empty On the Inside.) Several things she said touched a nerve, like the fact that she lost custody of her 2 kids, and finally had to admit the painful truth that, like everything and everyone else, they got in the way of her drinking. She said she either bulldozed her way over any obstacles or ignored them on the way to her next drink. That was definitely me. I put forth an effort to meet obligations and expectations, but frequently did so while already being drunk, and looking forward to hiding away and drinking my fill later, uninterrupted.

She also mentioned how her comfort and "happiness" was always conditional, and dependent upon external circumstances. There was no inner peace. I don't think I've ever known inner peace. I never realized until recently just how controlling I can be. I don't bully people into doing anything or being a certain way, but I certainly perfected the art of manipulation and guilt-tripping. Passive aggression.

Great meeting! It's exactly as I hoped it would be.
