6 Years OK this is a self centered, ego driven post but I have 2191 days yesterday AKA 6 years. Here are some random thoughts Lots of gratitude Recovery is a journey not a destination I can't do this on my own There is not a sobriety fairy. It takes hard work God did for me what I could not do for myself but nothing more Complete surrender There is no magic bullet instead it is a lot of small things done daily Willingness to change everything Nurturing my sobriety not testing it There is not a chemical solution to a spiritual problem A day at a time Mindfulness Prayer Openness to all types of recovery Education Learning to listen Stop fighting everything and everybody AA and the 12 steps SR Honesty Alcoholism is a thinking disease not a drinking disease. If you think I have problems wait until you see my solutions A meeting works every time The Big Book If we don't change we are condemned to staying the same Never underestimating alcohol When we give we get Nobody ever promised that life would be fair or easy Concentrate on what you need not what you want I wish to thank all my SR friends for all of the love and support over the years and I am great full to you all. Love you and have a sober weekend |

MI thanks for that inspiring morning message! Congrats on 6 years. Love to hear veterans experience ;) I've tried to use quote msge in my reply but doesnt work so i will type out my fave points you made: Recovery is a journey not a destination. There is not a sobriety fairy, it takes hard work. God did for me what I could not do for myself but nothing more. Nurturing my sobriety, not testing it. There is not a chemical solution to a spiritual problem. Alcoholism is a thinking disease not a drinking desease. Thanks MI for those points, great strong reminders for my journey. Have a great weekend as well! :tyou |
Congratulation! Great Suff! |
Congrats on 6 years and thank you for continuing to provide wisdom and support here on the boards. |
MIR before I joined SR with my little 2 years of Sobriety thinking Oh I have a handle on it . I did find that I do need to keep working & learning . So as to keep adding up the days & years . We all have are reasons to stop , but some ( me too ) should always keep working on what made us start & why . I just found out I was afraid of looking back , by writing in "Where Were You" , If I may make a suggestion to the ones that ( think ) they are free of this Beast that dragged us down . To write in that Tread or read others & reassess their sobriety :) |
Ops my thoughts reading your post got the best of me . Thank You so much beautiful , well worded Post :You_Rock_ |
Congratulations! |
Congratulations! 6 years! :a122: |
Wow, fantastic and thanks so much for sharing your learning and wisdom. 6 years!! Hope that's me one day. x |
Congrats on 6 years and thank you for this inspiring post (and all your other posts as well). That is a great list, what I like best in it is how well it reflects an individual journey (yours). So many points I deeply agree with as well and perhaps this is my favorite: "Openness to all types of recovery ". I always feel that the lack of this kind of openness is often what can most effectively get in the way of sustained and progressive recovery... although of course it's never as simple as just trying to convince someone to be more open. Something I have kept thinking in the past few days and I felt like mentioning somewhere on SR is related to the above. I will put it here on your thread because you used AA as a core part of your recovery. I am not newly sober but do find going to meetings very helpful whenever I feel the need: the environment, company, sharing, meeting people. Just went to a couple meetings this week and will do also this weekend. I tend to do this in clusters, then I don't go for a while... it works for me this way. So many ways to use whatever tool, I believe :) Hope you have a good weekend, MIR! |
:cheer I'm so thankful for you & your story of survival in ALL aspects of your life. |
Congratulations, MIR! Thank you, again, for setting an inspirational -- and sometimes solemn -- example for all of us on SR. |
Wow. Just wow. You really are an inspiration, MIRecovery. |
Thank You MIR for being here. Heartfelt congrats on your amazing accomplishment. |
Mir- These are my favorites. These don't only apply to Alcoholics. I can use these sayings in my daily life also!! Congratulations on 2191 Days!! If we don't change we are condemned to staying the same Stop fighting everything and everybody When we give we get Concentrate on what you need not what you want Nobody ever promised that life would be fair or easy Alcoholism is a thinking disease not a drinking disease. There is not a chemical solution to a spiritual problem |
