Struggling tonight.

Hey all,

I'm fairly new here. Day 22 sober, and I don't want to drink, but the cravings are driving me mad anyway. I suffer with bipolar disorder too (rapid cycling), so this doesn't help!

It suuuuucks! Just need to tell myself that if I get through today, then I'll wake up tomorrow feeling much better. And that if I'm getting cravings, then that in itself is a damned good reason to not drink.

Good that you are posting instead of giving in to the cravings. Most urges are short lived. If you can find something to distract yourself, you should be about the get through them.

Have any recovery books? The Big Book of AA is online. A couple pages should get you through a wave of craving.

Thanks, I'll look it up! I'm going to check out an AA meeting on Sunday, too. It's too hard to do it all alone. Luckily, I'm at work until 11pm so I could drink even if I wanted to!

Thank you for your reply

Hello Carver,

Well done on 22 days. You are clearly capable of making it through to day 23 and beyond, and you will. Those cravings will lessen over time.

Why not check in here ( post ) before you leave work and then when you get home. There is always someone around.

Take it easy and stay close.

Congrats on 22 days sober! The cravings will lessen with more time. The day will come when you don't even think about drinking.

Hey all! Thanks for your awesome responses! I'm feeling better now.

I especially like the urge surfing thing, that's cool.

I'm not gonna drink. I've fought hard for these 22 days, and I don't want to have to start again

Thank you all. You rock!

Cravings are HARD! I have been having them too. I am also in early sobriety. I have been breaking my days up in to no more than 24 hours...sometimes and hour at a time or a minute at a time. I don't know about you, but I can do anything for ONE day. Let's do it together!

22 days is awesome! I am right behind you! I dont want to start all over either. That would be like climbing a very tall and dangerous mountain, getting through the really hard part and then saying "GEE! That was fun! I think I will go down to the bottom of the mountain and start all over again!"

Keep on keeping on!!!

Congratulations on 22 days. I'm on day 6 and at this very moment I'm sober. What I try to do is realize I have a craving and work through it instead of trying to push it down. So, I'm having this craving - what am I going to do? I will go to SR, do something else I enjoy, talk about it.

Hey Toadie, day 24 was good, despite some relationship problems and some other stressful stuff going on. It's a shock to the system that I have to deal with this stuff now, instead of chucking a bottle of JD down my throat and ignoring it all. But I'm stronger sober, and I can deal with it all better

How about you? How long have you been sober?

Carver, I'm glad you're learning to cope without alcohol in the picture.
