Hallucinations

I've just had such a scary experience it's enough to put me off for life. After falling off and drinking heavily over the weekend I found it hard to sleep last night, finally fell to sleep about an hour ago but woke up thinking there was someone in my apartment. I thought it was my boyfriend at first as I 'felt' someone in bed. Scared the living day lights out of me!
I woke up to realise it wasn't real to close my eyes and it happen again. This time though I thought I had got out of bed only for my legs to give way.
My anxiety is high and have had chest pains all yesterday. If this is one thing to make me never want to drink again it has worked. After that experience I never want to drink again.

Have you considered seeing a Dr rl?
I think it's always a good move with alcohol withdrawal?

Thanks Dee. I am tempted to go about my anxiety but scared if I go about the alcohol work would find out. I know where I work they would look down on me and I've worked so hard to get where I am.

Are these hallucinations, or just dreams? Only happened when I was dozing off or in a light sleep.

I'm not qualified to tell you whether they're halluncinations or not - that's the thing.

I can't see how your work would find out to be honest - medical records are private, surely?

D.

Thanks Dee. I don't know what to do to be honest, just worried it would get back.

I work in the hospital where I have been hospitalized extremely drunk, rushed in with an ambulance. That was before I started working there. My employer does not know. Your medical records are supposed to be completely secure.

I hope you're feeling better and that you talk to your dr about the issue.

So if they were hallucinations you'll quit drinking?

What if it was just a false awakening? You'll keep drinking?

If you keep drinking, real problems will develop, for sure, not just ones your anxieties elevate to a state of fear.

I had the same fear...

...that my employers would find out, to that people in the community would. My doctor's son was a student I taught to swim a few summers ago. I took a big gulp, told her everything...and it was worth it to get the help I need.

Hello,

I totally understand your anxiety but...

Your discussions with your doctor are confidential and you should be able to rely on that.

Your employer cannot hold anything against you as they are not permitted to know anything you discuss with your doctor.

I hope you followed the advice of others on this thread, and are feeling better.

Let us know how your are doing.

Seeing a doctor is the best thing to do... you will feel better once you go and discuss your situation - I know I sure felt better when I went... and now I am 2 months in with the help of two doctors and SR.

I experienced something similar to that too!!! It was back in 2011. my experience was the most frightening thing I have ever been through (I was even hearing things!)...many more details I won't go into to. I had not drank for about 4 days when it happened except for 1 regular size bottle the night before. I fell asleep normally that night and woke up to a nightmare. I went to the doctor that morning who sent me for Psychiatric evaluation. No doctor even suggested it could be part of alcohol withdrawal. Long and short it's most likely what it was . It never happened again. I have been sober for over 3 years...

See a doctor but don't let it put you off for life

Sounds like the delirium tremens but we can't give medical advice. Definitely see your dr.
