AND...
I managed to ditch the call centre and put my PhD to use. I’m now an Associate Professor at a good university.
I’m extremely proud of myself — and when I finally decided to stop drinking I also came clean to my girlfriend about all the sneaky stuff I was doing to conceal my boozing, and thank God she stood by me, and we’re now engaged!
If anyone new reads this, please look at my earlier posts and see the miasma of alcohol I was caught up in and be inspired... because I think that if I can make it to a full year sober, you can too.

Like many of us the void you are apparently trying to fill cannot be plugged with entertainment or any of a variety of other direct methods of seeking pleasure. If you are like so many of us who have managed to stay happily sober, you will also likely come to the conclusion that making your life meaningful is the answer. Happiness will then become a byproduct of this process rather than its goal. How you find meaning will be up to you. The hole is yours to fill.

Secret
It amazes me how alcoholics believe they are successfully hiding their addiction and people can't smell booze on them. I feel for you as the amount you are drinking is very serious you are probably only still alive being a young 29 yr old male. Believe me when you get past mid 30,s the body does not cope at all well with daily large alcohol intake.
I remember your first post Void. Thank you for updating- you are an inspiration.
Good job, congrats- and keep on my friend.
Again thank you. We can never have enough ongoing success stories.

Hi everyone
I’m still here, still sober. That’s two years, two months, and one week.
To anyone who is just starting out on his or her journey to sobriety - good luck! If you’ve quit before and then ended up drinking again (as I have done more times than I can remember)... don’t beat yourself up about it. Even if you’ve tried and failed 99 times it doesn’t mean you won’t nail it on your 100th attempt.
It’s true what they say - a sober life can be really beautiful.
