Skipped the party

This is big. So big. :)

Every year there is a huge summer bash that has been my sobriety derailer for the last 4 years. I would always attend with the intention of just not drinking, and sure enough, 5 minutes in, I was slamming wine like it was my job.

I used to look forward to this party for 6 months. It was a mental tether back to my youth and wild child days. I held on, for dear life, for fear that if I let go, it meant I was old.

I'm 45. Hell, I AM old, :)

Last night I chose to forgo this drunkfest, and stayed home and beaded with my cheaters on. :) Next up ? Knitting ? Hook rugs ? Lol.

So grateful to be sober.

Sounds like a good choice to me AO :)

Congrats AO! Are you maybe going to do something to treat yourself?

Give me an A give me an O!

Great job AO :)

I think we really are serious about the sobriety this time. . .

It feels different--funny you should talk about crafts--I'm stringing gemstones
into chunky hippie jewelry to wear with my clogs and bellbottoms this Fall

AO you sound...mature!

It does feel different this time right ? :)

Gemstones ?! Hippy ?!? Bell bottoms ?!?!Oh that sounds right up my alley. I'd absolutely love to see your creations !

AO, good for you. I'd rather do something creative than nurse a hangover.

45 isn't old, merely well seasoned. I turned 50 and like that I've seen enough and am comfortable enough to think "been there, done that, no thank you very much."

Good job!

45 is NOT old!!!

You are just starting to ripen my friend!!!

ArtFriend 07-18-2015 07:15 AM

Congrats AO! And if 45 is old then I am decrepit!

FarToGo 07-18-2015 07:19 AM

I'm with Ruby2, 45 is a lovely age. I'll be 50 this year and now I'm sober, I feel good about it. If we take good care of ourselves and (God willing), live well, there's a good chance of lots of healthy years to enjoy and do good.
Great you skipped the party!
x

I'm 50 and still play with motorcycles, including dirt bikes. Sure I don't move quite as fast as I used to, but I'm smart enough now to pick my lines more carefully. Less pain, more fun.

You're only as old as you think you are. 45 is the new 30. ;)

Congrats on putting your recovery first, alphaomega!

My friend, according to the style guides, all "45" means is that it may be time to choose a maxi skirt, instead of a mini, along with a dab of Chanel no.5 behind the ears.

Today I am going to find some dried flowers for a great silver fluted vase that I dug out and polished.

Have you ever tried making a stained-glass piece or mosaic?

Way to go in choosing your well being!!

Your awesome AO i like watching cheaters if i catch it i remember one girl who caught her bf cheating she went ballistic and was really going for it she chucked the girl out and then started smashing anything of value this lady put a hammer through a expensive telly

The bit that i couldnt believe was when the guy who owns the house tv etc started going mad on the cheating bf kicking his butt

It was complete pandemonium
