I'm not going to give you a flippant answer. I believe stress is on the top of my list of triggers. However, I would drink for many other reasons including ones as trivial as the sun is shining. I wouldn't try to hang your hat on a single root cause of your alcoholism. To me that's the AV trying to minimize your problem. 2 cents.

I couldn't handle anxiety well - so I drank. Maybe stress and anxiety are the same thing. I am going to say I agree with you.

I think we drank because we like alcohol and the high we got from it.

I think that's a good observation.
Learning how to deal with stress in healthy ways is important to sobriety.

However....I also drank, as others said, when happy, excited, sad, stressed, bored....
