weight
I lost almost 15 pounds in a month when I stopped drinking- scared the fuzz out of me. BUT, my worries were quickly squashed 3 months later as I started gaining back the weight. I gained about 8 pounds back due to eating. I gravitate towards the sugary stuff though. I try and temper my cravings by eating a lot of fruit. It's still sugar, but at least I can get nutrients from fruit.
weight loss
I am on week 4 of not drinking. I use to drink about a bottle of wine a night. So far no weight has come off I am a little discouraged but feel 100 percent better. have to nap every day too. still very proud of where I am have never in 30 years gone this long without a drink. hope I will see a little weight loss soon.

I'm quite petite and lost 30lbs in about 4mths. Alcohol calories and thoughtless drunk snacking really add up. I've settled into this weight for 8 months. I guess this is what the healthy version of me should be.
One pot of beer(285 ml< 10oz> here in Oz) contains over 100 calories and the nutritional value is practically nil.Over six of such would be roughly the equivilent to a whole meal.
Of course is someone is eating too many good food calories they may put on fat too, depending on metabolism and other issues, so it is best to look at your over all diet as well.
Another factor is that alcohol will decrease inhibitions and you may eat even more.

Everyone's different. I was extremely underweight when I stopped drinking. I ate three meals a day for the first time in a long time in rehab and gained about 15 pounds then discovered that ice cream knocked out my cravings. And then menopause hit. I may not look like I used to in a bikini but I'm sober and I like it
I've lost 24 pounds in 5 months since I stopped drinking. It seems to be more than just not filling up on empty alcohol calories though. For example I eat better as I'm not drinking straight from work when I would then eat whatever rubbish was handy adn quick. I also have more time and energy so I'm doing more hiking which I love and going to the gym more because I'm not feeling sick from a hangover. Still got another 20 pounds to go but happy with progress so far especially as it has been quite natural and there is no sense of deprivation about it.
