Pep talk

Hi!

Super stressful day at work, really feeling like drinking tonight.
I was sober, went back to drinking, have managed to keep myself out of trouble and not drink too much.
The problem is I don't want to be a drinker, but continue to drink, even if its 2 beers.
I can't make it 30 days, I don't kid myself by thinking just because it's only 2 beers once a week ( a good week) that I'm fine; if I was fine I would make it 30 days without drinking.

I'm working on 30 days, anything further into the horizon sends me into a slight panic.

Helpful words appreciated
Thanks

just don't drink for TODAY.

sorry you had a stressful day at work, but drinking won't CHANGE that. and there are other ways to ease the stress.......

just this week i finally managed to get some time OFF from work. boy has that been overdue! even if you can't get a week off, can you maybe get a friday/monday off, or even a couple early offs and late arrivals? sometimes just NOT having to be up so early or stay so late can help.

is there anything relaxing you can do tonite? or maybe something strenuous to burn off some angst? i like taking the whopper loppers and whacking the hell out of shrubbery sometimes.

I'm actually taking a few days off tomorrow, that was part of my negotiating in my head " you have tomorrow off... "
But you're totally right, just tonight I won't drink, I'll find something else to do that won't give me a sense of self loathing and a hangover.
Thanks for replying, it helps just having others around.
Xo

I've never woken up sober and thought, "gee, I wish I'd drank last night".

Thats the best part isn't it, waking up sober.
Good reminder, I have a 7 hour road trip through the mountains tomorrow too that would be half as fun with a hangover.
Ok!! Now I'm feeling excited about enjoying my drive clear headed and full of energy!
I knew SR would come through xx

I just do it One Day at a Time.

With a stressful job you need to find a few outlets to help make you relax. I swear by my massages and by taking time out to pamper myself. Even an occasional bowl of ice cream makes me smile. Tell yourself that you can do this.

jsbodhi -- are you getting any support beyond the forum?

If you want to make sobriety stick, and you've tried several times on your own & keep going back to the bottle even though you say you don't want to, this is the time to consider some help.

There are lots of methods that help people to get sober -- cognitive-behavioral therapy, AA, SMART, medications like naltrexone. What have you tried?

Prayer and meditation are my go to tools. Perspective can change how you look at things, too. The number one thing that worked for me was my HP. Simple as that. I finally asked for help.

If you've gotten it down to just having 2 beers one night in a week, the next step to complete sobriety is quite small, agree? I would doubt you are physically addicted. Based on your post it seems like it is beating you up mentally. A nice drive through the mountains sounds pretty awesome to me, especially with a clear head.

I agree, it seems like a small step but I can't let go!! That's my damn problem, I'll keep at it though, because you're right, its beating me up psychologically, and soon it'll be two bottles of wine every second or third night again if I don't get it under control.

Thanks for responding everyone xoxo
Its always nice to come back
