Mother of an addict

Hello, I am the mother of a son who I recently discovered is addicted to opiates. I don't know or understand this and I am having a hard time trying to decide how to help him. I live in a small town, so there are not a lot of options. I did get him in a detox program, but there really is nothing else available as far as a rehab program. He is attending NA meetings and I feel he is trying, but I know this could be him telling me what I want to hear. I'm sure there are others out there that can give me some advice. I look forward to hearing from anyone. Thank you.

Is your son taking an active part in his own recovery - looking for help, programmes etc?

I hope you check out the Friends & Family section of the forum. Also, SMART has F&F of addicts meetings and literature or Alanon for in person support.
