More lessons from my blind kitty Katie

Katie is a happy little furball despite her sight issues. She tries to run and play like my other cats, but inevitably she bumps into things. And sometimes she irritates the others. Yet, she keeps trying. Her smell is not that keen either. When I put down treats, I have to almost push her nose into it.

The other day, I dropped an ice cube and it slid across the kitchen floor. Katie was nearby and ran over and started batting the ice cube around. She would chase the cube across the floor because she can hear it. She found a way to play in which her handicap is not an issue. So, now I play "chase the ice cube" with her. She just loves it. It does my heart good to see her so happy.

I relate to Katie in many ways. I too have deficits that I have had to overcome. In navigating through my new found sobriety, I have bumped into many challenges. I feel like a blind person in new territory. I know that I need to have a solid plan that I can follow...just like that ice cube. Keep my eyes on the "ice cube" and follow it wholeheartedly and maybe like Katie I too will be happy.

I take full credit for being 4 years 7 months sober. Please don't let anyone tell you, you "have" to work some kinda program to stay sober. You'll stay sober if you want too, rootin for ya.

Different strokes for different folks. I don't argue with those who abstain through their own volition regardless of their beliefs.

It's your recovery..........

Like the ice cube idea = clever!
Wonder about a cheap kitchen timer ticking - let her wack one of those around. She might like the bell@@

Yes, animals have a way of grounding you. I am so attached to my furbabies.

Fly - not sure about the timer. I think it would scare the crap outta her!

Hey AF... Can you describe Katie? I so love little fur balls.

So glad you found some thing that she can have fun with.

Ha ha... My two lumps are at my feet. One nudging to grind a wet tooth on me and the other just staring. Oh what they give me.

Have fun"cubing"!!!!!!!

That's such a great story, AF And such a great analogy to new sobriety. She's beautiful, btw. I have a Katie too - a beagle.

AWWWW love all the fur balls!! I have 6 myself , it happens when you are in animal rescue, you keep the fosters with issues. I must stay sober and keep working cause they are darn expensive! But worth every penny!! Good thing I can't figure out how to attach pics here yet. But when I do I will try to refrain from spamming their pics to yall. Zee, congrats on 20! Where I live indoor/outdoor cats don't survive long due to coyotes so they are all inside and I hope reach that age. oldest now is 16/17ish.
