My first post

Not sure what to say or how to fix this disease I have called alcohol. I have tried over the course of several years to "fix my addiction" to no avail, I have finally come to terms that I cannot have one drink (even when I think I can control it). To paraphrase my introduction, I have upset those I love dearly & seem to be on a path to destroy the very relationships I hold dear.

Welcome to the Forum Michele!!

I try to see my addiction like an allergy, it can't be "fixed" or "healed" it's simply something I have to live with, if I had a nut allergy, would I eat nuts? or would I go my separate ways with all the nuts in the world, so it is the same with alcohol, I needed to part ways on a permanent basis!!

Great to have you onboard!!

Welcome to SR, Michelle; you have come to a very supportive and encouraging place.

Coming to terms with the fact that 'you can't have just one' or moderate is a major achievement; congratulations.

Welcome to the SR family. You'll find a lot of support here. I got sober over five years ago and don't regret a minute of it. I hope the awesome support here can help you get sober for good.

Welcome Michelle

yeah the only fix I found was to excise alcohol right out of my life.

That gave me the chance to rediscover the real me, and to think about the kind of life I wanted to live

SR helped me immeasurably - I know we can help you too

Welcome to SR, MicheleMcC7. My life got a lot simpler when I took the option of taking that first drink off the table. As long as I don't take that first one, I can't take the second or third or tenth or twelfth one that usually followed.

There is a ton of great support and wisdom to be found on these boards. Hope you'll become an active participant here!
