Sounds like you're enjoying your summer, Behan. Camping. Three day weekends filled with friends and family. I'm glad you have a plan. I haven't gone camping since quitting.

Morning is passing slowly.

Behan- planning ahead has been working great for me in situations where I used to drink. For camping and other trips I just try not to have too much downtime - plan activities to keep me busy. And plenty of fun tasty other things to eat and drink. It's really more fun than sitting around drinking anyway.

Mecanix and Della...hope y'all are feeling better.

I'm not a camper....at least not the tent kind of camper. I'd rather be in a cabin or an RV. I haven't been since quitting either.

No rain forecasted....guess it's safe to go get my car washed.

Happy Tuesday y'all!
Xoxo

I second Brynn post in regards Della & Mecx

Sounds like you're doing well Behan, hope the worst of the seasonal madness is over

Ruby I don't have to go as far as Spain or Israel, just a few hundred yards to the supermarket!

After I read your post I checked - they actually come from Argentina! How can that make economic sense?

I got locked out of my flat briefly, I have a new entry code which I haven't memorised yet. No problem as it is in my phones memo pad, except it was flat! Had to go to my car and recharge it for 15 mins. Very 21st century problem. It was sort of you guys fault for posting such interesting stuff

Sao...your jokes are corny just like my dad's! It must be a requirement for fathers! . Btw....they always make me chuckle!

Glad you were able to get into your home. Technology can be a pain sometimes. All my passwords/codes are scribbled on scraps of paper and I've got them in a ziplock sandwich bag! how 21st century is that!?!?! Ha!

Poor Sao, stuck outside. At least it wasn't raining and you could sit in your car AND you had a charger in your car.

I'm in the office. Someone brought donuts from a bakery that isn't all that far from my house but not someplace I'd run to as it's in a bad neighborhood. I've had the donuts before and they are amazingly good. Glutton that I am, I had two donut holes.

I was talking about that mystery bookstore in Minneapolis and I googled the Minneapolis newspaper today and, strangely, one of the headline stories is that the owners of the bookstore are selling the store. Health reasons. I think of the store and there it is - weird.

Mec, I hope you shake the illness soon. Nothing worse than being sick in the summer.

Speaking of summer. The radio is saying that we finally have beach weather but they are advising no swimming. Three to five foot waves and rip currents. My children are supposed to go to the beach tomorrow with camp. If the beach advisory continues they won't be going. I hope.

Time to focus on working at work and not donuts.

Pretty soon there won't be any actual bookshops left. I suppose things have to change.

Happy Bastille Day

I just mowed my lawn! woo hooo!

Before you think I've lost my mind, I wasn't allowed to mow while on home detention. They didn't really give me a reason why - I suppose they thought I'd be out chatting with the neighbors or something. My SIL has been doing it, but it's nice to just be able to take care of it myself.

I went camping a few weeks ago. ..first time since I quit. Im sure I enjoyed it more...the smell of the pine trees, fresh cool air, and the beauty of nature. It was fun making smores by the campfire. ..more fun than drinking. A good, clean experience.

I just had a call from the park where my children are at camp and no one had picked them up. The sitter had texted that her mother was found unconscious and she was going to the hospital or wherever they took her. Last week her car had gotten towed. My mother came to my rescue today. I picked up the kids last week. Time for a different sitter. I hope the mother is actually ok. It just seems a little odd. Especially since I had talked to her earlier this afternoon and she sounded a little out of it.

Anyway, I have to go get my children from my parents' house. I'm glad I'm off after tomorrow. I hate this babysitter issue. Honestly, it is one thing that makes me want to drink. It's too stressful. However, I won't drink over it. It's not worth it.

Hello everyone; )

I forgot that house sitting would be so hard. I thought that I would have loads of time to read and write and think and stuff but the reality is that I've hardly opened a book since I got here. I'm reminded once again of Joey from Friends "It turns out that I don't have as many thoughts as you would think".

In my efforts to be more sociable, I went to the cinema tonight. I used to give volunteer English lessons to this guy and when he passed the exam he kept asking me out for dinner as a thank you but I kept turning him down. I didn't want to give him the wrong impression or something. But he did ask me for a coffee and we ended up going to the cinema. At first I was thinking "I should have said no". But it was nice to be sociable and get out. We went to see the film about the Beach Boys. What a sad story but at least it had a happy ending.

Hey guys, hope everyone's swell. I've been super busy this week.

We've been chatting with a Frontpoint rep about their home security system. My husband thinks it's too much money, so we're checking out a few others as well.

I'm hanging some pictures in the dining room today. Been putting that chore off. It's time to get it done.

I've boxed up some old dishes to donate to a thrift store/charity. The charity is for alcoholics/addicts, so I feel good about it. The thrift store is run by the recovering addicts who are getting back on their feet. Good stuff. Meanwhile, I've ordered a set of dishes I've wanted for quite some time now. It was a splurge that's also going to be part of my birthday present from my husband. My b-day is on the 29th. Anyway, it's beautiful and I'm thrilled. I've never bought a really nice set of dinnerware. Somehow it's always been given to me or handed down. I feel very "grown up" now, lol.

I haven't finished reading Mockingbird like I'd planned, so I'll be busy reading all night. Go Set a Watchman arrived on my doorstep this morning. It's a nice book cover. Hopefully I'll get to it in a couple of days or so.

The GRE studying can wait a few days

We're having shredded chicken breasts & veggie stir-fry over rice tonight, with teriyaki and peanut sauce. It's easy and tasty. Not much clean-up.

We've been under heat advisory here for a few days. I think it was almost 100F today. I'm used to it though. Not a big deal really. The cats are staying cool under some bushes on the front porch. I'm giving them ice water instead of regular water.

SoberP, your dinner sounds really good. You've had a productive day too. Awesome. It's been so long since I read To Kill a Mockingbird that I'd need to read it again to pick up Go Set a Watchman. I've been reading all the hoopla surrounding the release so it will be interesting to hear your impressions of the book.

Talk about pressure on Harper Lee. All these years and just one book. One ultimate book. The build up of a cult of personality in which she dodged publicity. Or publishing anything else. What if one was the only one you could do? Although she apparently wrote the "new" one before the other and just let it sit for over fifty years. She's in a nursing home and is mostly deaf and blind following a stroke so really, how aware is she of what is going on?

I'm home right now with all the windows open. The house is beastly hot inside but it's chilly and breezy outside. Maybe it will cool off inside. Now I have to see to my sons drum practice. No band for him next school year.
