Confused about NA

Been looking into NA meetings in my area and came across the meaning and content of the 12 steps....just confused what this 'higher power' is and how is believing in that going to help us heal....it keeps saying we are powerless to our addiction. . but i believe we are the only one who has power over it... Any helpful insight?

A higher power can be whatever you want it to be. A god, a person, a spirit, a group, etc. It's a basic tenet of 12 step programs though, I'd suggest going to a meeting to find out more. I am not a regular participant in step based recovery, but I've been to AA meetings and they provide helpful input whether you do the steps or not.

Check out the 12 step forums too, lots and lots of info there about this subject.
