Sorry; Jerry had a heart attack getting clean. You can blame the dope all you want; but the diabetes didn't help, nor diet, 2 packs a day he smoked, nor the heart disease that ran in his family.

Matthews is a hack & his yuppy vibes disgust me. Love Carlos, just never toured enough I'd be willing to travel for 3-4 shows. When I saw the dead it was weeks a dozen plus shows & with 50+ thousand family

Ok, my bad. DM does nothing for me either. Was perusing channels yesterday and stopped on the Dukes of Hazzard movie. Left it on for the severe car abuse (daughters wanted to see the impossible jumps and the race--me too) but found myself rockin the head to the AC/DC, Molly Hatchet, Funk#49 soundtrack. I've drank, drunk-danced and passed out to all these tunes in my youth. No cravings as that boy does not exist anymore but I laughed for a good 15 min. and that is priceless.

Oh my, a kindred spirit on these boards! When I quit in April, I did nothing but listen to the Dead every waking hour for weeks on end. But instead of listening to the usual 70's shows that are my mainstay, I became fixated on finding the hidden gems of the early 80's, an era I have always skipped over. Certain shows in this period showcase Jerry just flat out wailing on the guitar, and you can feel the desperation in his voice while singing. Overall, it was a very up and down period for the band. The music from a man fighting the downward spiral of addiction is powerful to me and helped get me through the early months.

Nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile...
