My name is Bebrave and I'm an alcoholic....
Tomorrow is day 1. I'm a 55 year old female with an awesome high level professional job. I have an awesome husband, 2 kids, a grandchild.
I've been a drinker my whole life. I could moderate mostly. I've been sick a handful of times. Most nights I drink a bottle of wine.
I've had pain issues the past five years related to my sacroiliac joint, hips and feet. I would say this was had escalated me to a new level.
I don't like me. My wonderful husband deserves more! I deserve more.

Welcome BeBrave!
Congratulations on making a decision that will make your whole life so much more enjoyable! You've got so much going for you already, having family and a good job are a lot more than many of us had starting out.
Most of us including myself needed a support group to be successful stopping drinking. After I asked for help (AA in my case) I found out quitting was possible.
Please say in touch, you'll get lots of support here

Welcome Bebrave. It's wonderful to have you join us.
When I found SR I instantly felt less anxious about quitting. I was relieved to know I was no longer alone. We all remember the early days of recovery, and we want to help. Congratulations on making the wise decision to reclaim your life. You can do this!

Hi BeBrave -- welcome. I'm new-ish to the forum, but not completely new to sobriety (10 months).
I related to your post -- I am 53, working as a professional, was drinking a bottle of wine most nights. What motivated me to quit was my relationship with my husband -- he deserved better, and my attitude was getting more and more negative.
Getting sober has been one of the best things in my life -- I feel so much happier! Marriage is happier too. I just wanted to encourage you that it can be done and it's worth it. I chose to go to AA which has been very helpful.

Bravo for you taking the first step. Your marriage and kids will benefit greatly from your sobriety. I've been sober for three years and do not regret one thing. Seeing life as it is and not through alcohol goggles is priceless. Good for you!
