Books on quitting

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good book on quitting alcohol? And nothing by Allen Carr or Jason Vale please.

I feel like I need a good book to give me encouragement to start a serious journey to sobriety, and maybe someone I can refer back to along the way.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

The only book that has ever worked for me is the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Have you ever read it or the recovery stories in the back? It's very inspirational! :-)

the Tao of Pooh is great. The story unfolding of "me sober" is good so far. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Hi.

AA has a excellent book called “Living Sober” which is a great read no matter how long sober.

Some books that helped me were:
'Under the influence' by James Milam and Katherine Ketcham and 'Beyond the Influence' both of these books have a good explanation of how alcohol and addiction affects us both physically and psychologically and how to formulate a plan of recovery.
'Drinking: A love Story' by Caroline Knapp. I could really identify with her very personal story of how alcohol overtook her life.

Living Sober is really, really useful.
I also read Monkey on My Shoulder in the first month and it really helped me.

You can read The Big Book online for free here Alcoholics Anonymous : Alcoholics Anonymous
Being a nosy bugger, I read The Personal Stories first, then went back to the first chapters. (Also, if I'm honest, I need the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions alongside The Big Book to get the most out of it.) Alcoholics Anonymous : Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions
