desert containing alcohol?
Hello everyone, I'm new here...I've decided to stop drinking alcohol as i feel it's becoming a serious problem i decided to stop yesterday (1st July) so im pretty new to sobriety but tonight my girlfriend offered me some profiteroles and as i took a bite the taste of alcohol hit me i spat it out right away but a tiny bit ended up being swallowed, what im wondering is do i count this as a slip up? I have no intention to drink but if alcohol has entered my system wether it be the smallest amount from a desert or the massive amounts im used to can i still class myself as sober? Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Hi MistaT,
I'm no expert, but...you didn't actually drink any alcohol intentionally, so you're still on track for Day 2 - keep counting those days!
Don't be so hard on yourself & all the best for day 3,
May

We are all similar and all different, too. I've heard others comment on similar stuff and each of us makes up our own mind about how to deal with this. What matters is that now you are on the alert and that's a good outcome, imho.
Welcome MistaT. As long as you didn't willingly eat the dessert because you knew it had alcohol, i'd say you are just fine. Only you really know, but from a chemical standpoint the amount of alcohol actuallly consumed is probalby near nil. Use it as a lesson to be more careful about what you eat moving forward.

Welcome, and I wouldn't lose slip over it. Different people have different definitions of a slip. I would consider a slip being sober for 2 weeks or a year then intentionally getting drunk for a day or night. I think you are fine and congratulations on your decisions.
First off, welcome to SR, MistaT! Hope you'll be a regular participant here. Congrats on your decision to better your life.
Not a slip, in my opinion. You didn't ingest the alcohol on purpose and also stopped as soon as you figured out there was alcohol in the dessert.
You do have to be careful--lots of desserts, restaurant entrees, mouthwash, vanilla extract, fruit juices, non-alcoholic beers and wines, etc., all contain alcohol and you never know what might trigger you.
I'm in the restaurant/bar business and the restaurant I started a new job at last month offers a really good-looking loaf of wheat bread at the start of every meal. The bread is baked with Shiner Bock beer so I have not and will never taste it. I know the alcohol is supposedly cooked out but I still just don't feel comfortable doing so. Don't want to trigger myself for any reason that I can control.

Welcome MistaT!!!!
I wouldn't reset my sober days count for something like that. But it is a good reminder to be aware of ingredients in food.
I hope your girlfriend is on board with supporting your decision to stop drinking.
Congratulations on day 2

What you experienced was certainly not a slip. You didn't know the dessert had alcohol in it, plus it wasn't a significant quantity. Your body manufactures alcohol, so there is no way to avoid it completely.
I eat foods containing alcohol if the alcohol isn't obvious. I can tell by the smell if I need to avoid it.
