Holiday Edition Stay sober Weekender July 4th
welp I was getting some stuff dusted off for the camping trip - a real camping trip this time - and I thought of other things needing done. Stopped over neighbor to let them know we are going and to make sure our zucchini doesn't turn into watermelons while we're away.
Saw USA up 4-0. As I was watching for a couple minutes Japan scored a goal. I figured it was time to leave...
Kayak guy called me back. They are going to deliver kayaks to camp site! And while the wife takes a paddle boat tour on Saturday they are going to let me use a kayak at a different place for fishing - no extra charge. That way I can satisfy her urgent desire to paddle board and go fishing without having to drive...
Hope everyone is set for the night here on the west continent.
Have a good week week all.

I see it's getting close to closing time at the SR Corral. Nice, chill weekend here. Went out for lunch with a lady yesterday, then watched a cool documentary from iTV with this Welsh guy who is traveling Africa via rail. Pretty neat. Had breakfast this morning in a small neighboring town further up the volcano. Watched some baseball, took a nap.
Just passed the 1-year mark of living abroad. Tuesday will mark 3 years sober from alcohol for me. I will also be traveling back to the USA that day. Big week! In the past I'd be worried, emotional, unsteady...but these days I am simply humble and thankful to be lucky enough to be around to enjoy each day.
I get to enjoy the view below every night, I used my tripod and adjusted some camera settings to really capture the peacefulness of it all. Happy to be a part of this world tonight! I will chat to you all next weekend from the US of A, home of the Women's World Cup Champs.

Ok, where do I even start? Biminiblue, congratulations on 16 months! That's great.
SoberP, I was exhausted reading what you got accomplished today. But I did about that too. Continued on the clearing weeds and cleaning the yard. I'm watering now but I'm only righting this so I remember to turn off the sprinkler. I planted more pots. Walked with the kids to the park. Walked around the block three times with daughter whil she practiced riding her new bicycle. Roasted a pork tenderloin and made a macaroni salad for lunch, then loaded and unloaded the dishwasher twice and washed the pots that are too big to fit. Now I'm relaxing.
Love thrift stores. I scored a pair of barely worn Dr. Martin black boots that are $135 new, for $8.00. Bought a pair new for husband. I also buy my jeans there.
I'm going to shower now and have some ice cream. Then go to bed.

congrats on 70 days Angie!
sombrero - cool pic as always... reminds me that I must find the other camera battery and other things, tripod etc... according the the unofficial schedule, I am to be on top of Cadillac Mountain by 430 AM next Tuesday morning to get a photo of the sunrise.
I have a lot to do the next couple days. Make the yard self sufficient for a week. Laundry and pack clothes for hiking and water sports. Pick up a fishing rod. And get all the camping and fishing gear together. One less cooler to pack.I had been thinking about all the extra effort that went into packing our beer and wine and a bottle of something. The hiding it and pretending it was something else in the campsites that didn't allow alcohol - it never stopped me. A lot of effort went into drinking on these kind of trips. Not any more.
The weather report is fantastic for the 4 days we'll be in a tent. Sunny near 80 every day. Let's hope!
Great week all.

Another sober weekend comes to a close my good friends. Thank you!
BigS.. Get that picture printed on a panorama canvas and hang it. It is amazing!!!!
I have an amazingly busy week planned. And for once outside work. Something to do every evening this week. I am happy.
See you at the normal time Thursday.
For the new people lurking or newly joined the sober weekend bus starts on Thursday mornings EDT.
All are welcome to spend the weekend living sober and reminding ourselves that life can be lived to its fullest without drinking.
As a reminder to say each morning.....

What does it mean? In the words of Mecanix...
“The first bell is the bell of mindfulness, calling to me and you.
It says stop what am i doing right now, take some breaths, feel my body, am I holding it tight and tense? Relax… calm down… life is a journey and not a destination, make the journey as glorious as possible.
The second bell is the freedom bell and I'm ringing it for you to let you know freedom from drink and drugs is available to you, come and hear us calling out to you.”

Belated congratulations to USA on winning world cup
Had to make a dash to a hospital last night - sister had sudden appendicitis, which was
briefly dangerous but she is fine now and has left hospital
You have all been too busy for me to keep up (despite having today off work)
