Hey Weekenders!!

I'm very much looking forward to this weekend off work, been a long week, a sleep in tomorrow and some relaxation I think is in order.

I always find it weird around the 4th July when those that I know and the friends that I have in the US get really into the holiday, but soo many people that I know here in Ireland, don't even consider that it is even taking place, kinda like thanksgiving it only exists in certain circles on this side of the Atlantic, some of my work colleagues wouldn't even consider the 4th July as having any significance.

That got me thinking about how these "holidays" can seem like the biggest day in the universe when it comes to the temptation to drink, but they should be an expression of culture, our equivalent here is St Patrick's day, but sadley that has also been hijacked as a drinking day in our minds!!

Anyways, let's keep it Sober everyone!!

Anyone for some Jerry Lee Lewis!!

What De Hail

Earthship Ideas... Keep that Sober Brain crankin', and pleasantly distracted...

- Earthship Village Colorado.com -

From under this massive Arts & Crafts-style Porch I built on Ye Olde Retirement House, I'm watching Ma Nature's Fireworks Display. About 3 simultaneous Thunderheads throwin' down Bolts, and really bassy Thunder. My favorite activity to observe, w/Ginger Beer nearby. Up to ~10,000,000 Volts, and 10,000 Amperes. Probably in the 80s Temp-wise, but a nice Breeze keeps it pleasant enough. Rain Sprinkles that come & go act as Ma Nature's Swamp Cooler to chill it down some. A Pheasant is calling out a short distance away.

Nice one, BigS! Fab Maine Pix, Weas. Neato Rocks back there, fo sho. Having done my part to reduce the Single Malt Inventory in Scotland, we want to hit Nova Scotia - 'New Scotland' - in our new and improved Camp Trailer to be purchased after the City House Closes 2 weeks from today. From a Warren Buffet-owned Company... On the way, we gotta hit Da Wife's old Stomping Grounds in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan where the Recovering Catholic Girl went to College to discover Sex, Pot, and Alcohol. Recovery is different for everyone, eh?-)

- Nash Model 23D Trailer -

I got toasty earlier while walking the Pooch along the River down by our local Dog Park in a Regional Park rehabbed from an old Gravel Pit. So, I drove home and cranked up the A/C in my Man Cave; a.k.a. my lil 1987 15' Camp Trailer. Copped a snooze while luxuriating in the Meat Locker-like Temps. Felt GREEAAAAAAT!

This Sobriety Gig suits me just fine. I'ze just takin' it all in, and hope others can hit their stride this potentially-challenging Weekend, too. As did LBrain, I hit my 1.5 Year mark next Friday. Honestly, I don't really 'count' much anymore. It's The New Normal.

This Pic is Hail not heavy enough to fall to the Ground. It gets 'sucked back up' into these massive Thunderheads. Mebbe it gets re-frozen and heavy enough to fall. Mebbe not. These Bad Boys can be up to ~50,000' high, and ~35,000' is not unusual.

Feel better tetra!!!!

I will second BIM... Holy crap BigS! You win for fireworks!

Back home after a full full day! Sober LIVING for sure. Eat at a place along the art walk called Nosh. Was always very trendy but the people seemed real when I stuck my head in. Best damn sandwich I ever ever had. A crispy pork belly with stuff all over it. Stuff. Damn good stuff. I still can't seem to form sentences but it was gooooooood.

Gym tomorrow!

Saw all the people out. Had all the windows down and the sunroof open. Cool weather and sun going down. Drove all around town watching people. All doing something with someone. Lots of drinkers out on art walk. I rather like my evening.

Happy sober Friday evening.... See you all in the morning. Or for Trees tomorrow evening!

Edit.... Great pic MM!

Sigh...I messaged my sister-in-law to say happy 4th...she wrote back to say that they had a few days off work and they went hiking and camping and now they are relaxing for the rest of the weekend. I used to love camping.

I'm in bed with tea, candles, my books and the remote. I guess things could be a lot worse.

I would also be a lot worse without all of you. I enjoy reading all of your posts

America celebrates it's Independence tomorrow.
I celebrate my independence this month as well, 2 years from the oppression of alcohol.

Olive, sounds delish

Great point, PK. It should be an expression of our culture - not an idiotic excuse to get obliterated, right?

That is quite an interesting cloud formation, MesaMan.

I need help deciding between these four biz cards. Care to select your favorite, anyone? My husband isn't helping me at all, lol. He just said, "Which costs the least?" Big help there.

I went to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall in Philadelphia once upon a time and I quizzed the tour guide a bit on the ins and outs of things, as I'm a bit of a history buff, but I remember asking about the declaration of independence on 4th July 1776, did that mean actual independence was achieved or was that just someone making a statement that they declared independence and then they had to go fight a war to secure it?

Because declarations of independence in Irish history happened almost ever week, the British would then come a long and crush the revolt and that was the end of that, and sure enough that was the case for the US too, it was only a declaration, the war that actually secured it was between 1775 - 1783, it lasted 8 years!!

This is the kinda stuff that the 4th of July is all about, a Nation was declared, but many fought and died to actually secure it, this kind of culture is what should be commemorated and at the forefront of everyone's minds!!

Somehow though just like St Patrick's day, the alcohol industry has eased it's way in!!

SP, I don't like the typewriters, they are kind of 1970ish.

I'd rather see a kindle, or a book, or something. Just me, maybe.

I'm also not sold on double-sided cards. But there you have it. I like the simple, classic layout of the Georgina Baker one, with no backside print.

I can see that The bit of color is nice. I prefer it to the one at the very bottom.

I do like the typewriters, Bim. I can see how it looks 70ish though. I still like them.

What does the double-sided card say about the person? Is it saying something negative? Too flashy? I didn't consider that.

I don't know what it "says" about you...or me...I just have a graphic arts background and am going at it from that angle.

...and I'm never one to shy away from sharing my opinion

(I also don't have a horse in the race.)

Oh! Jen, the hippos at the zoo were fun today, they were really active in their pool, and coming up to look at visitors. Their little wiggly ears are so cool.

SoberP... if the typewriter has something to do with the purpose of the card then keep it. Double sided cards are not too flashy.

An appreciated 'Standard' in the High Tech Biz World was to have Biz Cards with Native Language Info on the 'back' side. The Japanese and Chinese especially appreciated that touch. It was always presented using both Hands, and with a lil bow. Cards were never then slung into one's Pocket. Too dismissive in symbolism.

Alt/useful Info on the Card back could work for you, too. Hey, it could be a Celtic Knot, or anything else that makes you stand out a bit. Typewriter Font has been known to work...-)

It's for my freelance writing biz, Ken.

I thought the typewriters were apropos.
