Brain, I'm glad you had a good time fishing. I was always amazed when people didn't drink while doing activities. What?! Fun without beer?

Finally some quiet. It's chilly here with leaden skies. Maybe it will rain later. Not sure.

LBrain - you sound like my son - he is convinced he NEEDS new fishing things all the time. Honestly he only has a half size dock rod right now, and with his camp this week he is now asking for a full size rod with an open reel, or something like that! My parents are coming in July, so I am sure he will be spoiled and get all the fishing equipment his heart desires!

Ruby, I was not planning on dating this year. After I split with ex 3 years ago, I dated regularly for a few years, but I realized I was very accepting - as long as someone seemed nice to me, it was like I craved the attention. And thanks to ex being abusive I would ignore warning signs as "well, they are better than ex". So, I have taken a hiatus anyway, and found myself. I am now not scared of saying no, I do not think you are right for me.

So, I will have my sober date, and hopefully he will be a nice friend if nothing else. I know him through mutual friends, he is my age and a firefighter. Enough for me to give it a whirl lol.

Hi All, hopping on. I can't believe how fast this thread gets to over 5 pages!!
Glad to see everyone here!

Not too much going on for this weekend. I have a meeting on Friday nights that I've gone to a couple of times that I'm planning on for tonight. It's funny b/c its always recommended to me b/c its in a "cool" area downtown and "lots of young people your age!". So I tried it out, and I actually do not love it. Its just way too many people, everyone seems to know each other, and I feel like the weirdo new girl who slinks in the back and doesn't have anyone to talk to while everyone is socializing after the meeting. Just reminds me of high school when I was obviously not one of the cool kids. That all being said, I like the format and I do get something out of the meeting. Plus its a good way to kick off the weekend which is always a bit tougher for me, so I'm going to go anyways.

And on Saturday, one of the girls I met a few weeks ago invited me to a meeting she's leading in a different part of town with a group of ladies, so going to that and dinner either before or after. I know it sounds stupid, but I am so happy about the invite. It will be nice to get out to dinner and socialize, in a very "safe" way.

Ok, off to finish up work for today..

Lola - sounds like a nice weekend, and you are getting out and about!

Result - I just stopped my aquarium pump sounding like an airplane - not sure how, I was just kind of jiggling it all around in frustration. Now trying to decide what to do with my day...I really want to nap after not sleeping, but thinking I am better off fighting through this tiredness today and try and sleep well tonight.

I'm down for a sober weekend.

I am one week sober today and long may it continue

My plans for the weekend are that I am going to see a uk national motorsport event on Sunday which I am really looking forward to. Tomorrow I am doing a spot of shopping!

Lola- I went to a few meetings where there were younger people "my age" and I actually didn't like it very much! Most of them don't have a lot of time or experience under their belts, and I'm sure they're nice people but it kind of turned me off from it. I went back to sticking with my normal group (same 15-20 people I see variously at different meetings in the neighborhood) and I just feel so much more comfortable there. I don't think meetings are a good place to feel like an outsider, so I say stick to the ones where you feel welcome!

Learningagain, nice job on the pump! Sometimes my laptop makes funny noises and if I whack it good on the bottom left side it stops haha

Good morning weekenders!

A very hard weekend for me and I need to stay close to y'all. This is me doing the opposite of what I want to do which is hide and isolate today. I wish I could drink but I can't because I made a promise to myself to never drink again.
Xoxo

Hugs brynn. Stay close, I will be here a lot this weekend too. Early days for me and still not 100% confident.

Feel free to reach out any time

This is the best way to spend a sunny day off: getting my hair done and then having fish and chips followed by toblerone cheesecake

A Feenomenal Friday for all, I trust...

I dodged a potential Bullet yesterday. Although assured by my Realtor that our House Buyer's Realtor - whom I affectionately now call 'RealtorZilla' - was dissuaded from further Home Invasions here while the Bank Appraiser did their work yesterday, it was all a False Alarm. The Appraisal is next Thursday, and we'll be out West on the Ranchette then for a week. >100 F Degrees there now, and the free 'Swamp' Cooler I jury rigged-up might not keep up. Ma Nature does cool it down nicely at night, to be sure. We're Window Shopping away some of our pending House Sales Bucks like 'Kwiki Mart' Lotto Winners from a Payday Loan Store. One item on the Short List is Mitsubishi A/C. Slick System. Very efficient.

I popped outta Bed early, and got down with cleaning our 'Swamp' Cooler here. The Water-filled Trays on either side catch all kinda Pine Tree Pollen, and get 'interesting'. There was this bizarre, periodic 'humming' resonance coming from it. So, I put some Oil in these lil 'Cups' on both Fan Rollers. Seems to have done the trick to correct this vexing problem. All is amazingly quiet now. Oiling things, and banging on them, are Universal Solutions for fixing Guano in Life.

Today's Chore is retrieving my packed Utility Trailer from a Pal's House, and ethically dispose of items on it cleared outta here for Open House ~2 weeks ago. An old Water Heater hauled outta the Basement, etc..

The Beeb mentioned stellar Aurora Borealis action in the U.K., so hopefully there's plenty to see up in Norway right now.

We're all lounging around this morning, enjoying the News...

Tetra! Did you bring enough for everyone?

Well folks, I'm glad to see all of the new riders. And many returning ones. And, of course, the regular crew! Sounds like all are doing well and have things going on. And yes, if you are entering into a stressful situation or venturing out into new sober activities, stay close. It got me through the first year.

I haven't fished in salt water for a few years. It was only when some guys from work went. Maybe ten times if that over the years. I just wanted to go. I had nobody to babysit me. I went just to feel free and know that I could do it without drinking. Been wanting to for a while. Next step is getting the kayak in the salt and landing some ferocious fish in a kayak. Hopefully no real sharks! I definitely want to take the wife crabbing in kayaks - should be a blast if we - she - can ever get the time to do it. And it will be a first for me too. Crabs is good!

I did something this morning I never did before in my life during my drinking days. I actually washed my gear in clean water and put it away. No more fishing once and discover 5 years later your reel and rod are rusted and not usable. So even though I have over a year, I'm still learning to do the things that need to be done. In the past it seemed like such a chore to take care of things. Just downing cold beer was the remedy for all that (UN)necessary work. The reality is it took about a half hour and it gave me a sense of responsibility about myself.

In looking back, was I lazy or just a drunk? Perhaps both. But now that I don't drink the lazy me is becoming a thing of the past. The little things that need to be done are getting done. And it is no longer a painful chore. It is part of the "thing" now. No more just participating in the 'fun' part of something. There is the 'cleanup' afterword. And it ain't so bad.

Sadly I think I'm a little too far north- it only hit twilight here at the moment so it's not dark enough. I am heading south tonight though, so I'll keep an eye out! I was just going through some shops on my break and saw books about Aurora Borealis so they must be viable sometimes. I've always wanted to see that!!

Hi to one and all

That's my job done for another week

Ruby - details sketchy on where that place was (details below)

SiteIQ84 if you get a chance go on the Bergen to Oslo railway - the best views i've ever seen

That Toblerone Cheesecake looks good Tetra. I saw a really big bar of Toblerone chocolate at Heathrow Airport yesterday but resisted. Not sure who owns the biggest bar - either Sepp Blatter or Roger Federer would be my guess.

I want to go to the Comedy Cafe tonight but it's too boozy so no go.

This week is National Motorsport Week part of it is the Formula E London Grand Prix tomorrow and Sunday. Might take a trip south of the river to watch

V-8 sans toothpaste today for lunch. Too hot to sit outside even under the patio fans.
Sao....that thing looks like Noah's ark to me.
Ken...glad your depression is better. Sorry you felt so down last week.
