mcfearless - quite a day, and library open on a sunday? you must not live in the usa.

I wasn't going to post my 18 months but then I figured that I SHOULD share it.
18 months quit drinking. No relapse and very few if any close calls to drink again. Actually no close calls, just a thought or two that a cold one would be nice. The thing is that now I don't even think about drinking. My boat fishing trip a few days ago was a sort of test. Not once did I feel like having a beer.
So keep at it. The more sober time you accrue, the easier it is to keep it.

These days I feel as if drinking was never a part of my life. I am a NON-drinker. For good. Those of you who struggle in the beginning, do whatever it takes to stay sober. Once you reach a certain point it becomes second nature.
When I decided to quit for good, I meant it. One chip wonder I've heard them say. Not really. I just decided I wasn't going to drink again and never change my mind. Sure I went to rehab - not my decision. Work made me go and do all that. What got me was the being escorted from my job site under armed guard for blowing a zero point zero two bac. That's right, 0.0230 BAC got me fired. That means I drank enough in three hours time to register that almost 8 hours later having abstained for 7.5 hours in between. I was going in for night shift and needed to sleep first. So I drank as usual.

But trust me, with my history of drinking for over 35 years I needed a kick in the pants to wake me up. I'm actually lucky to be alive.
Losing my job sukt, but it probably increased my life span by another 20 years. 20 good years.

That said, it's great to be alive ! (When you don't have man flu, cause then it sucks.)

The man flu truly is the most pitiful state in existence!! LMAO. My bf is always trying to tell me that is has been medically PROVEN that men get sicker than women. It is the most pathetic sight. We can have the same sickness and I will still carry on with my life and he will be languishing and withering away asking me in a little baby voice to bring him a drink......

Nope, I'm from South Africa. But good that you shared as for noobs like me (4 weeks?) it's always inspiring to hear from people who have abstained for long periods of time. 18 months is a great achievement and I lift my glass of cranberry juice and cheers you to the next 18!

It's a scientific fact ! Peer reviewed and published and everything !

(I'll let you in on a little secret, it's really not that bad but it's our one opportunity in adult life we get some sympathy and get to be pampered and taken care of. To lie back and bask in memories brought back of being lovingly nurtured by our mothers, so let us milk it for a few days before we go back to building, inventing, solving and fixing everything.)

A bitchen Sunday already in progress here in Mile High Colorado. See below...

Had a blast at my old Drinking Buddy/Boss's Birthday BBQ last night in a nearby College Town. After phenomenal Burgers in his gorgeous Backyard, I picked up on the accent of a Gent living in a neat old House on the next Street. He was a German Transplant Livin' Large on Royalties streaming in from inventing 'Kong' Dog Toys; the hard red Rubber ones. Our Goldie loves them! He's working on a new Version now to compete with his own old idea.

Having been to Germany myself repeatedly on Biz, we had a really invigorating Chat on Cultural Dissonance between East -> West Peoples, and times after The Wall came down. He was in Berlin then getting his Master's Degree.

Utilizing his Mechanical Engineering & Business Degrees, his work in the former GDR pre-1989 is paying off in interesting ways. The Infrastructure replacement strategy required in everything - including Water Treatment Plants - was typically to over-build in order to handle future needs. However, this causes Equipment to run at inefficient, Equipment-damaging slow rates when under-utilized. So, per 'The Law Of Unintended Consequences', as German Workers left for better opportunities after Reunification, demand dropped for treated Water.

So, guess what? He's now putting his skills to use on these identical problems in - ta da - California. Long-term Drought, and enforced Water Restrictions, are stressing California Water Treatment Gear as demand/flow rates drop. One of the smartest Dudes I'd met in a long time, and one versatile Mind. I can't imagine trying to engage him on this level while bent on Scotch. Chalk up yet another Sober Accomplishment. All were had by a good time. Alcohol present was irrelevant.

Da Wife kept her own consumption 'down' to 2 Vodka Tonics, and that made for a pleasant rest-of-Evening. This, despite one of her usually-sotted Drinking Gal Pals being there. This Gal is drinking less to drop some poundage; motivated by a few Date nibbles got via 'Match.com'. Hope Springs Eternal...

I'm gonna surf some Norwegian Islands on Google Earth Satellite this morning. Killer Pix, site1Q84! Thanks for those...

A lil Thread Theme Music for all those warming up to Firefighters. The timeless Fashion in this Clip kinda covers some of the Couture, and Booty discussion here.-) Vid Clip Intro is by Helen 'I Am Woman' Reddy.

You must have had a different kind of mother than I. Mine was the "If you're breathing, get up." kind.

Pretty dog, MesaMan.

We've walked the dogs this morning. They're satisfied for a few hours at least. Lol.

My husband is going out of town today to visit family. Yay, that means I get to hunker down and read/study. No breaks in concentration. I love down time.

I'm reading Graduate Study For The 21st Century by Gregory Colon Semeza. Also finishing up The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg, and getting started with The War of Art (a classic already) by Steven Pressfield.

I'm calling in a professional for a landscaping consultation this week. I am at the point where there's no turning back, and I want to make sure I have the right ideas for this yard. The stuff I do will either make for some great curb appeal, or make the yard a laughing stock of the neighborhood. I'm hoping for a boost in desirability when we list it for sale.

I'm helping my buddy sell his vehicle. He is a top level exec in industrial sales yet he thinks I have the gift for making money on car sales. I guess he's right. Not sure how/why but I'm not complaining. So I'll be listing his vehicle. I've already found him the next one to buy. I actually wanted it for myself but it's double the price I can pay.

I'm studying on Udemy today as well. A web developer course, a writing course, and finishing up the Scrivener course. This should take me a while but I can go at my own pace, so that's nice.

I'm happy I can pee standing.
They are thinking of banning that in Sweden. Not kidding unfortunately. It's like one of these "micro aggression" type thingies the gender studies faculties have dreamed up to legitimize their (non existent) validity and necessity. Sigh. Can't we all just get along ?

Big congratulations on 18 months LBrain. That is a milestone

Great photos Site - be careful out in the wilds as I believe Troll bites are one of the leading causes of mortality in Norway, they hang out under

Hi Mcfearless welcome to the sober bus. Mid winter for you right now I guess

Ban it, or don't. I'll still pee standing. What it is, really, is they want our bathrooms. All those urinals are a waste of space to them.

My mother is a saint. I would not be alive if she had not embedded in me the "Get Up" habit.

Details on a FUD. And, not the Elmer Fudd type...

Invented for use by Female Boat Sailors when there's no time during Races to use the Loo below. I Crewed on a 36' Cal Boat outta San Diego while in College. Tight Quarters down below on those Sails-driven Craft...

Public Facilities Designers are getting with the Program and designing ~2x more Toilets into Female Restrooms than in Male Restrooms.

Yup. Chilly here is Johannesburg. Spring and summer here are one long party though as everyone is outside bbqing and drinking all week, so best time to quit the sauce is winter.

Hear hear. Maximum respect to tough moms and dads of the world. The first time I put myself in rehab was after my 63 year old father deservedly put me on the floor with his fist for being a useless drunk and not taking care of my shiz.

This suits seems like a decent show....for a show with such an absurd science fictionesque premise : People who are likable and we care about AND lawyers.

Edit ! Holy moly...it's the bald guy from game of thrones ! (season 3 episode 1)

Is it just me or do you have to be ADHD to do this weekender thread? I just can't follow the flow. So I jump in here and there, post a funny and leave. I am old.
