LBrain, what kind of sharpener do you use? Maybe I need a different one.

Funny about rain. I have a small room in my place where I can reproduce rain. I'm in it almost every day.

Knives...keep a fillet knife sharpener on the counter.

That's what she was doing and it could of been more that what I thought it was! She wasn't all bulked up either, she was tiny. You can do that too?? Go you! That's awesome.

I *could* do it If you don't maintain, you lose some of it. But I'm certain I could gain it back pretty quickly.

I'm small-ish too (size 4-6 at 5'7").

Yeah, women don't really "bulk" easily. I actually lost inches. I looked better than I ever have in my life while lifting.

Thank you Brynn, I appreciate the effort.
And Turtle, could you build me a room like that?

Here's what I use, Trach.

Amazon.com: Smith's CCKS 2-Step Knife Sharpener: Home Improvement

Is this a decent one?

I remember talking about fitness with you before..... You're inspiring me to lift some weights. I'm 5'7 too but I'm a size 12 right now after gaining weight from my crappy knee. My doc keeps telling me that I need to get better muscle strength but I prefer cardio. I'm going to start with weights tomorrow It's happening. Did you use a trainer?

I don't think you can blame the guy if he's been called away for an emergency. It shows that he's into you if he was still trying to fit you in despite the emergency I'm sure you guys will be able to connect once things settle down.

Zen, not really, no. I mean, I used the advice and help of lots of friends on MyFitnessPal. I used Mark Rippetoe's method and forum, as well as a couple of books. I watched several specific Rippetoe videos for form.

I consulted Rippetoe for form (literally consulted him on his forum, lol ... and yes, he is somewhat of an a#*hole).
I read The New Rules of Lifting for Women by Cosgrove and Schuler.
I followed the Stronglifts 5 x 5, later switching to Reverse Pyramid via Leangains.
And I always used MyFitnessPal for support.

Now I want to try lifting weights! I have just been hiking. But my mom was an aerobics instructor, so I know what I should do, it is just the actual doing that is proving difficult!

We will probably reschedule the date, he said he will get in touch later today once he knows what is going on.

And, I am a nurse, and so I have been called in last minute, especially when the weather was crazy, so I completely understand. However, I don't know the guy that well (clearly, as first date), so am wary too...as I have done the excuses myself in the past!

I give fireman guy a gold star for calling (or texting) twice when he had to re-schedule due to emergencies. I guess you are getting a crash course in being involved with a firefighter.

I know many people in law enforcement and I don't think I'm cut out for that kind of relationship. But fire fighters seem so sweet and helpful and not controlling at all like LE. What do I know though? I always went for the bosses or powerful guys. That didn't work in my favor either.

I suspect it's me.

If you have any old injuries, be aware it could aggravate them. I strained my right groin (old injury from high school cross country running) when I was first learning. But it did heal up fairly quickly. Get one of those foam rollers to stretch out the soreness and stiffness in your muscles ... and there are varying opinion on when to stretch. For that matter, there are so many opinions out there on lifting it's ridiculous And lots of know it all meatheads to go with them, lmao.

That said, you will feel great ... strong, fit, flexible. I have never felt better.

Many people claim it can cure back problems. I don't know about that cause I've never had any. But I can see how it could help.

Hippo - I've spent a lot of time on MFP, too. Well, mostly before all the changes that make it pretty unusable. I just use the food diary now, and I'm in some groups and that's all the time I spend there. It was better back in the day - like before 2011. But there is a lot of good info if you get off the general forums and into the groups.

Keep an open mind, learning. He sounds like a good guy....he didn't leave you hanging. I always feel discombobulated when plans change at the last minute...takes me a bit to regroup.
