Stress

Stress is a common problem for most people - for alcoholics and addicts it's a common trigger point.

Learning to deal with stress clean and sober is challenging but with a few ideas, we can make it easier on ourselves

Here are some of my favourite links for healthy and positive tips for dealing with stress

and it might help sometimes to reframe our ideas on stress?
Stress may not be fun but it can help

Thank you, Dee! I've got avoidance down cold, but am currently working on "change how I see the situation."

I see that under the link the 4 ways to deal with stress, it takes us to the American Heart Association a well recognized, well funded and highly respected organization.

Under two of the four parts of their outline in handling stress is meditation. I will say I consider myself very much a beginner at mediation, but the affects are indeed remarkable - I would venture to guess mediation is a common thread for many here on SR.

For those who have not tried mediation, you don't have to be expert by any means to gain many benefits.

Great thread Dee - thanks!

Definitely!!!

Stress is part of life.... It comes in both positive and negative forms. For many years my response to stress was to try and ignore it until I needed to blot it out or blow it out.... That was usually done with ridiculous amounts of booze and drugs.

Thanks for sharing these!

I had a glance at this last night, and woke up this morning thinking about it.

I was stressed this morning even thinking about it. I have avoidance nailed.

Stress has definitely turned me to drink and therefore to wrong in the past.

Stress is merely the wind of life. It's not something to fear or avoid. It's just something that IS.

I think it's like any thing for guys like us Trach - too much of anything can be self destructive.

I still have a lot of ups and downs in my life & things out of my control, but I'm nowhere near as stressed as I used to be.

that's got to be a good thing to aim for, surely?
