Please help

I am tapering but it is hard. All I want to do is drink more. Does anyone have some advice or can help?

Talk to your dr and then stop drinking. It's far easier to stop completely than it is to taper. Tapering is darn near impossible for alcoholics.

I agree that tapering is too hard for most people but please talk to your doctor first.

Ask your doctor for medical help to detox safely. Tapering is near impossible for us, as it's asking us to control what we can't control.

I wasn't able to taper no matter how hard I tried! It's the nature of the beast.

Tapering is the 2nd hardest thing I've ever done & it took 7+ times to work. I like everyone else has suggest medical help ..

tapering ... LOL ... for me it was an ugly phase in my long struggle to get completely FREE from the control of the obsession & craving cycle alcoholism had over my life.

Hope you live thru it ... tapering ... LOL

Hi there,

I'm sorry you are struggling. The reason why tapering never works for alcoholics is because the phenomenon of craving starts the minute we take the first drink. We have no "off switch". Our bodies are literally different than a "normal" drinker. Just like if you were allergic to nuts or something.

If you feel that stopping cold turkey would cause severe withdrawal then I would go to your doctor or an ER and detox just to be safe.

Tapering just doesn't work for alcoholics. Good luck and hang in there!

I found it difficult to taper as one sip of alcohol and the trigger was there in my hand to go get more, I finally made progress when I went a few days without any alcohol, but you gotta stay safe!!
