Hi Everyone, Glad I Found SR
Hi Everyone, Glad I Found SR
Hi Everyone,
I have been reading for awhile so I thought it was time to introduce myself.
I had my first drink and my first drunk when I was 14 yrs. I took to alcohol like a fish out of water. When I was 26 yrs old my life had become totally chaotic and unmanageable and a doctor I saw gave me some articles to read about alcoholism. At first I was angry but things were getting out of control at work; my job was on the line because of my drinking and I worked in a very heavy drinking culture so...
I quit on October 26, 1986, went through addiction counselling and considered myself a very blessed alcoholic in recovery for the next 6 years. Then I went through some life changes, took my eye off of my recovery (thought I had that in the bag) and just like that I started drinking again.
So here I am 22 years later, yes, I had a 22 year relapse
My new quit date is January 1, 2015 so I have been sober for 169 days. I am so happy to be putting some distance between me and my last drink. I know I have a long way to go but I am so glad to have found this site.
I really want this to be my final quit date.

Welcome to the family. I'm glad you joined us. I relapsed after 20 yrs sober and drank for 3 yrs after that til I got sober again over five years ago. Stick around and read and post. Lots of support and useful info here.
You are not alone, Rose. I did the same thing after 3 yrs. sober. Out of nowhere I decided I could be a social drinker again. 7 yrs. later I came crawling in to SR. I reclaimed my sober life - and you will too.
You have all of us to listen and care. You can do it Rose.

Thank you all for you kind welcomes!
It is so encouraging to be able to read and share with others of my "kind", lol!
One new thing I have learned here, when I feel a trigger, is to think things through to the end. It never has a good conclusion.
I am looking forward to continuing my quest for recovery. I know it is so much more than just not drinking.
