Someone at work recently said: "so and so isn't strong enough to handle liquor.". This person doesn't drink so it was a criticism of their inability to imbibe. Well I guess my sensitive alcoholic soul got angry at hearing this. I just wish I could change popular cultures view of people who have problems with alcohol as being "weak". I know I can't but I hate being viewed as somehow weaker than regular people. Like we're sub human.

Tang I think anyone who says something like that must have a PhD in alcohol. How dose one get a PhD in alcohol? HMM let me think.

Yeah, my wife thinks its a weakness. She has a tendency to be "an expert" on everything, though. She can understand alcoholism about as well as I can menopause.

That's an ignorant remark. I think non-drinkers are the strong ones.

Hey Tang, that sort of thing is just stupidity. Hopefully they were just joking.

If not, just keep a mental note about that person and treat them accordingly.

Some people are simply ignorant and say ignorant things. The best way to handle them is to simply ignore them ;-)

What other people think of me is none of my business.

If they are ignorant, it is none of my concern.

So part of this is my AV accepting these remarks. I do think there are problem drinkers in denial painting pictures of non-drinkers as weak. But they are just trying to justify their own problems. Becoming healthy is not weak!
