Della,
I've never been to the wine, uhhh, I meant grape-growing region of NY.
I heard it's really nice.
The only reason I go to Oneonta, is basically for hunting.
Have a house and acreage there.
Haven't gone since last Nov. My nephews go every week.
Right now, they're planting a game plot of corn, pumpkins, sugar beets,
radishes, alfalfa, etc.
Cooperstown is about a half hour north.

Now that your son is "hooked" on fishing, don't spoil it with a rough
trip. The whole idea is to let him have fun and catch fish.
Action, not waiting hours for the "big one", in rough seas.

Good luck!
Thank you Lunar! That kind of thing looks perfect! He is actually attending a fishing camp at our local metropark this week, and is beyond excited!

He is looking forward to collecting shells, also has it stuck in his head he is going to catch a Manatee and bring it home to live in Lake Erie as his pet!

Good morning, day and evening!

Not much going on here other than unreasonably hot and humid weather.

Last night I broke my rule of no tea after 9 PM and had a fitful night's sleep as a result. (I had just received a shipment of assorted teas yesterday.)

Actually won a tricky chess game online. One wrong move on my part and the other guy would have checkmated me instead.

Scattered thoughts, so plans are all over the place. Making some yerba maté now. Hoping brainz will unscramble soon.

wow saoutchik - them look like go fast engine parts to me...

the clocks are blinking which means I slept through the storm, lots of good rain this week for my victory garden, now to start on area between deck and fence....

poison ivy? YIKES. I got it from my dog once or twice years ago. Get yourself some ivy block. You put it on before you go traipsing in the woods. Take a cool bath in avino oatmeal bath stuff - good stuff. I use caladryl, combination calamine and benadryl stuff - works well too. I keep this stuff stocked.

I felt groggy this AM, I watched a full disc of the 3 stooges as I lay on the couch before wife got home. Saw the episode where Curly carries a block of ice up the steps and it's an ice cube by the time her reaches the top. Two hours of three stooges on a Sunday morning - happy fathers day!

lunar, when we goin fishin?

All this talk of Indian food. At first I thought you meant "real" Indians, not the ones from India. Which has me wondering...

I'm not going to lie, I started to drink last night, but really dug my heels in and stopped myself. Went to bed without even feeling a slight buzz and woke up feeling great! It was tough, like some kind of war going on in my head, but I stood my ground and I am happy about that.

I finally get to relax for a day and get my mind wrapped around sobriety.

Have a great Sunday and happy Father's Day to all whom it applies!

msn1, you have to ask yourself why. Why did you decide to start drinking. The fact that you stopped says you can make the choice.
You should always post here before you start drinking and ask for advice.

A pleasant morning here before the 97 F Degrees temps hit later today. While I'd turned on and commissioned the Sprinklers, there'd been no need to use them prior; thanks to the Rain got here. So, it's rhythmic 'clicking' of Rainbird Sprinklers; the Swamp Cooler on 'LO' to ventilate the Joint; and my Industrial Strength Coffee.

Back when Social Workers went through the Trashcans of prospective Parents to look for evidence of nefarious behaviors like drinking Beer [no irony there], my Adoptive Parents jumped through all kinda Hoops in the Cold War years to get me at 3 days old. Via a Spinster Nurse Aunt who worked at a SoCal Hospital. Quite the Family, Mom's side... So, PITA, Tongue-tied me got bundled home at 3 days old. I got my Tongue 'webbing' snipped. Also allergic to Cow's Milk, so I cried nonstop for 6 months until my Seventh Day Adventist [SDA] Aunt suggested Goat's Milk. Miracle cure!

To no one's surprise here, I was quite precocious. Built my first 'Crystal' Radio Set at age 5. Took apart, and reassembled, Clocks. Lawnmowers. You name it. Did all kinda Guano with my huge 'Erector Set' Kit.

A good ole Po Boy from a small Illinois Coal Mining Town, Dad - seen below - joined the 'CCC': Civilian Conservation Corps. Back when there was support for Folks having Jobs, they built Trails and Irrigation Projects to stay out of the Mines. His Dad was in a Wheelchair from a Mine Ceiling collapse the entire time I can remember. Mom was an Army Base Beauty Queen Contestant that couldn't compete in the Finals on a Saturday night. That's the Sabbath for SDAs. Mom pretty much thought I walked on Water.

Hey, they were great! No grand Baggage to confess. here. I'm Genetically-predisposed to get a major Buzz on, with the DOC of choice being Alcohol. Part Scottish. Part Polish [likely]. Do the Math on the chances of being an Addict. Even if this Personal Narrative isn't objectively true, it's of great solace to box it up and store it in a Cubbyhole as simply the Genetics I was dealt. Nothing to drink over any more, eh? I got it made in the proverbial shade, and constantly look ahead with gratitude. When I went over the Cliff, I lucked out. My Bungee Cord held, and I hauled myself back up to Sober Reality. No going back. Nevah.

Here's to ya, Dad & Mom. Ya done alright by me.

Give the Lyrics a read while listening. Very germane.

LBrain that's what I did to stop myself. The decision to grab a drink was very impulsive. Didn't think about it, just did it. And after I finished it is when I asked myself why I was doing this. And of course I could think of no good reason. I was popping in and out of here but didn't post. I should have.

But today I am able to just stay in and lounge around with my trusty iPad at my side. I haven't had a day like this in over a week. So if I experience any urges to drink I will make it a point come right on here and post.

I've also begun looking for a new job because the one I am currently working is really beating me down and stressing me out. It's not helping my sober efforts at all and it's time to change things up. I already have some friends putting in the good word with their superiors so hopefully I will being doing something I want to do very soon.

MM, what a great tribute to your parents. I'm touched. My grandfather was in the CCC too. Ended in a wheel chair as well but he had MS.

I'm back from my meeting. Quite a few people this morning. Was nice to connect. I'm home but hiding on my back porch for a couple minutes of quiet time. The radio on the wah home told me that a bunch of men died in India from drinking bad liquor. The crowds gathered at Stonehenge for the solstice. There was dancing, people touching the stones and a smattering of arrests for drug offenses. Ah, life.

Now I have to go inside. Yes, MNS, if you wish to stop completely, post first, EVEN IF YIU DON'T WANT TO.

Morning guys - Ruby, glad you survived the party and the kids had a good time! Kids playing at the park after the party too, very nice. Sounds like you survived and then some!

Been busy here. Took a crazy drive in my Izusu up this mountain yesterday, steep dirt roads and the whole 9 yards. Had lunch at a place with an amazing view. Off to breakfast at the gardens now. Happy father's day to the dads out there. Hasta pronto!

Well just braved WalMart, how is that for a fun Sunday morning?! Needed to get a cat feeder for when I am away - a friend will be stopping in, but do not want him to worry if he is too busy! I have a fat cat and a thin cat, so feeding is always an adventure as one needs to eat more and one less!

On the subject of thin and fat...since I stopped drinking (today is day 12) I have lost 5lbs!!!

Lunar, the Batman post goes down in the Weekender Best Of fersure. Moar coffee!!

Skywalker, Happy Birthday.

LB, I dived that Bimini Road (well, duh, you saw that coming, eh?) I want to believe. I don't think Atlantis, but it really does appear to be man made. Or just decaying coral reefs. Hey, Bimini doesn't have all that much going for it. Close to the Gulf Stream, so big game fishing...a bunch of friendly wild dolphins that will inexplicably seek out and swim with human touristas, and that blue water. But, yeah - that's about it. Tiny little island, needs a hook - "Bimini Road."
<<~~~~~~~~~

BLTA for breakfast. With a Claussen pickle.

Napolean whatever-that-movie was...two hours of my life I'll never get back.

cp4eva - I'm glad you found the Weekender thread, and glad you are making a serious go at sobriety. Sugar (or too much of it) gave me hangovers in early sobriety.

I have a black cat. He stares at me all. day. long. Oh, look - he's staring at me right now. Unnerving. I've taken to holding up a spray bottle when it gets too annoying.

Grew up in SOFLA. Blergh - melt.

*skipped entire page of food porn.*

Yesterday I went to the Pet Expo. It was a great place for me to get my dog fix, since I can't have one. Good day, beautiful weather (PE was indoors, but I took buses.) Today I'm going to the Art Fair that I really like - music and art for a whole city (small city) block - plus it's close to the water so it will be temperate.

Have a great one, all.

mns1 - is there some reason why you still have alcohol in your house? JS, it's a good idea to banish it.

Has anyone ever had blood blisters show up on a burn that is partially healed? I burned my arm pretty good about a month back and it was healing nicely until this morning. I woke up with blood blister on the pink skin where the burn was. Thoughts??

Maybe you put some friction on the delicate skin while sleeping? Just moving around in bed could have been enough. Maybe try a loose gauze bandage while you sleep to prevent friction? This is from personal experience of an advanced clutz!

In the 1990's clan Saoutchik hired an Isuzu to drive up to the cable car on Mount Tiede on Tenerife and it overheated in the middle of nowhere. Tiede is a volcano so we were basically in a rocky desert. I climbed over some rocks for a better view and wow! a man made resorvoir. Million to one chance. Had to make a dozen trips back and forth using the plastic windscreen washer container. I should have checked first I suppose. Ran fine after that.

Glad you got through your party Ruby

Happy Birthday Skywalker

Lunar, I have a 49 year old Lancia. The engine is a 2.8 litre V6. The photo is from several months ago, currently the engine is in bits awaiting a rebuild. I bit off far more than I could chew when I started this but I have no choice now but to finish it so as to recoup the money I have spent on it
