I had my last alcoholic fling on December 14, 2014. The following day I made the decision to remove alcohol from my life. A tough decision that still challanges me from time to time, I refuse to sucumb to my former existence. Six months have been a long time coming, but a short time on the road to change. I would like to say I have it "in the bag", but addiction is an enemy not easily beaten. It can always be standing in the shadows waiting for a crisis or a weak moment to act. Enjoy the days, weeks, months, or years of sobriety...
...but don't loose your guard.

Happy for you and congrats.

Totally agree with the vigilance. Addiction is cunning.

But we got this, all of us. Stories like yours are very motivating. It CAN be done.

Rock on

So very true P! I know it first hand. I let it sneak back into my life and almost take me down. I do have my guard up - but not in a bitter, tense way like I used to. I finally stopped feeling that I'm missing out on life by not being in a coma half the time.

Thank you for a heartfelt and hopeful post. So glad you are doing well and continuing to heal.

Great to hear. Six months is wonderful. Especially for you, I'm sure.

As I recall, you've struggled to get sober the whole time I've been a member of the forum. I thought of you as a particularly "hard case." So, anyone who thinks they can't get past the constant relapses, the struggle to get sober, should take note of your success, and take heart.

Again, congrats.

Congratulations creekrider , 6 months is brilliant. I agree, we must always be on our guard, but the guard does get better and easier and it becomes second nature, like driving a car, automatically looking out for all the hazards that can befall us., without consciously thinking about it, Nice one!
