Day 1

Hi All,
And so it is the beginning. It was the beginning last weekend as well but I had a bit of a slip up last night. I have registered on here because I think it will help to be a little more public and to share with a wider community. I went to an AA meeting last October and was sober for about 4 months and that was at a time of stress when I was out of work. Since starting a new job I have begun drinking again. What is all that about?!!
I didn't continue with AA because it didn't feel right for me. I am not prepared to admit that I am powerless because I am not powerless. That is, I guess why am here typing this today.

Welcome to SR Davidbrown, you'll find lots of support here. I used to go to AA meetings but now I only use SR as my recovery program. I think it depends on the person, the important thing is to not pick up that first drink!

Congrats on being sober for 4 months! It didn't happened to me for too many years. I registered here a few days ago as well. I am not comfortable with the AA approach, it didn't feel right for me either. I am a heavy drinker, for more than 20 years. I believe that I am now ready to stop. I talked to my doctor and I've met with a psychiatrist. I will see her again tonight. I don't want to feel hangover and miserable anymore. We can do this together. I spend the last two days glued to this Forum, reading the posts over and over. It really gives me motivation and inspiration. It won't be easy, but we can make it. Good luck!

I'm just curious. So if you do not believe you are powerless over alcohol, does this mean you believe you can moderate your intake?

Hi David

Some times there are no reasons for us drinking - I'm not in AA but I actually think the powerless thing is as good a reason as anything.

I see it as a specific powerlessness relating to our relationship with alcohol. Its what takes us back to drinking again and again...

Remove that relationship, and we become more powerful than we can ever dream

You'll find a lot of support here

D
