This has to stop..
I have been a "lurker" to this site for months now. I have finally found the courage to join in and visit numerous times a day. I have been a heavy drinker for 30 years. I have stopped for a month here and there but always find my way back to the bottles. Now I just can't do it anymore. Just wanted to finally say Hello. The SR site gives me hope and I have turned to it many times when the going gets tough. For now, I have tied my running shoes on and am off to the gym for a few hours. Tonight I won't drink. Thanks for listening.

So good to meet you Kaifly! I drank 30 yrs too - and in the end, it was all day. I was getting very close to destroying myself. When I found SR - and knew I never had to be alone, it made all the difference. You can get free. (You're wise to stay busy and distracted 
)

Welcome! Sounded like me, and many others I suppose. I was a heavy all day drinker. I lurked here for weeks before I posted. The funny thing is, I attempted my first post, but something happened and it didn't go through. I ended up drinking heavily again that day. The next day, I made my post that I promised to be sober for 24hrs. That was April 20th. I haven't looked back.
I am so happy I finally took that step!
Wish I had taken it years earlier.
Looking forward to witnessing you claim your life back!

Thanks Incontrol. Funny I had the same experience with my first post. lt feels so much better now that it is out there. I am doing the one day at a time approach. Just finished a long workout and now hungry for dinner...with water!

Reading your post, the replies and then Typing this on a phone has taken me twenty minutes or more. This means it is now too late for me to get in the car and drive to anywhere that could serve me alcohol.
