I enter detox unit in 28hours

It's now 28 hours until i enter the detox unit for at least 3 days, slightly apprehensive. I need to make this work!. Even at 31 the alcohol is taking it toll on my health and i'm not functioning very well. Sometimes i will drink 11pm-4 am, have a bite to eat and drink milk then spend all day in bed recovering until my next session. If i want to improve my life i need to get sober.

Can't think of a better way to start a new life than the plans you are making for detox.

Don't be apprehensive, you will be in good kind hands that will get you better.

What's your plans for after detox?
How you going to lives sober life?

What are you most excited about?
Just think - 11pm to 4am you will be sleeping like everyone else!
Won 't it be great to get up and have a healthy breakfast, maybe read the paper?
You could take yourself out for coffee ever morning to celebrate the day before being a sober one.

Sounds like you are on the tip of a new beginning.
Jump off and embrace it with all you got.

I wish you the best xx

Congrats on deciding to go in for detox. Just think of how good you'll feel afterwards.

Good luck! I've twice detoxed in hospital and both times they were great experiences. Sadly, after the first one I didn't stay sober long term because I didn't have a plan in place to remain sober. I didn't realize that it was more than a matter of just not drinking. Read around to start a plan and enlist support for the process. You will be in good hands. Good luck.

Thanks. I do have plans for when i get out, such as cycling and walking more often and improving my fitness as well as taking a look at my diet. I think diet and exercise can be very helpful as we all know, but i need to start practicing it.

I rent near to family so will be spending time around there in the early days and locking my place up and remove all drink. After doing some reading here i think it's just about taking it day by day or hour in the early days. All the best, won't have phone or internet for at least 3days.

I'm proud of you, Harry. (And a little envious. I wish I had freed myself from alcohol at a younger age.)

All the best to you as your embark on your journey. SR will be here to help provide support.

What happened with detox Harry, was it inpatient or were you doing it at home? I hope you can turn it around.

Any idea what triggered your beginning to drink again?

I went into detox for 4 days. I have had the social skills of of a pickled lemon, so if i can do detox unit, anyone can. Left detox unit on a high mind and body so much better. Day 1 home no problem. Problem, i asked my folks a couple of months ago about getting a dog. Ironically the day i leave detox i spent 11pm-7am tending to lab pup with no sleep, next night similiar. My focus should be on recovery then i can help others.

Harry, if I am getting this correct you have not drank since detox. If so that is great, it is rough at first. Stick to your goals and plan.

Pet your new puppy for me, puppy deserves a sober and loving companion.

Don't give up.

Doesn't matter how many times you have to try. You can figure this out.
