Far be it from me to attempt to persuade someone who's set on controlling his drinking that this is not a good idea. I don't know how many hundreds of times I've witnessed this on SR, but I do know that those who report back never have a happy story, with some losing everything they cherished in life. Those who don't come back? Who knows?
Binge drinking on the weekends is not "alcoholism lite," nor is it a milder or more manageable version of alcohol dependency. Binge drinkers are also at greater risk for a number of short- and long- term consequences.
Your wife and your two young children need a husband and father who is emotionally present, absent of severe and/or recurring illness and, ultimately, alive during their childhood and beyond.

- Liver disease
- Nerve damage
- Sexual problems
- Permanent damage to the brain
- Vitamin B1 deficiency, which can lead to a disorder characterized by amnesia, apathy and disorientation
- Ulcers
- Gastritis (inflammation of stomach walls)
- Malnutrition
- Cancer of the mouth and throat
