I felt much the same as you when I was in my 30's. I knew in my heart that I wasn't drinking normally. It meant way too much to me - I never wanted to do anything without it. As you mentioned, when there were emotions involved, there was the need to pour alcohol on the situation. I never figured out why. I didn't do what you're doing though. I didn't try to stop back when I should have. As a result, I was drinking every day in my late 40's - with a ruined life to try and piece back together. This won't happen to you.
