Withdrawal Anxiety

I have general anxiety. Couple that with the anxiety from withdrawal and I always run back to alcohol. Any advice to get through it?

I think that happens to a lot of us. It was a problem for me, too. Music, exercise, whatever it takes because you simply have to get through it.

Hey Happy, Def what Non said. Exercise is great for lessening depression too which goes hand in hand with the anxiety.

You've got to remember that the w/d anxiety only lasts a few days. You've got to get thru it cause it does get better, but only if you stay sober. I used to walk my dogs when I wanted to drink. Anything to stay busy.

Herbal tea with chamomile made wonders for me in the early days.

Good news is that you tough it out, you won't ever have to go trough this again.

I know that anxiety well. I get outside and walk until my mind clears. A 30 min walk in fresh air followed by something mindless like a good movie offers me a little solace.

As easy as it sounds to stop drinking you stop drinking

You can ask your gp for help with WD & your anxiety in general but the bottom line is no matter what you will not drink

Ask for help accept alcohol is truly ruining your life & will only get worse

Stick close and start posting everyday to help you through the early stages

its really nice to meet you btw

Every time I returned to alcohol the anxiety got a little worse because I know only had the pre-existing anxiety I also had a growing dependence anxiety on booze.

Like a few others have said here exercise helps, or breathing exercises.

Do you see anyone for your anxiety?
