Sick with flu since quitting

Hello everyone. I have been sober for 3 months and have been sick with the flu three times now since April.
I was wondering if there was anyone else that has also been sick after quitting alcohol or is it just bad luck. I have not had the flu for years so thought it may be possibly from quitting.
I would really appreciate any responses.
Thank you so much.

Hi Alive soul. Congratulations on three months.

I'm not a doctor but three episodes of flu is definitely not right. I think you should visit a doctor for a check up and see what she/he says - you might be run down or something

Alcohol disrupts our digestive system which is where most of our immune system is....

I had a bad winter, turns out I had a tooth infection as well as a urinary tract infection. I didn't know this and just kept getting "colds."

See a medical professional, you never know what is really going on until we take a good look. Be honest with your doctor!!

Honestly, I doubt it was the flu. In my case withdrawal was in the form of the flu.

Nice job on 3 months!! I have had the same experience after abstaining. This going to sound gross, but a lot of people develop candida ( gut yeast overgrowth) from heavy drinking. The body converts alcohol into sugar and feeds the yeast that continues to grow. When you stop drinking after a period of time, there is a yeast die off and the toxins are expelled, some going into your blood. You feel flu like symptoms. Eating yogurt and healthy food will help, unfortunately it takes time to even out. ****this is not medical advice****
Hope you feel better soon... B vitamins and water help a lot.
