Hey, y'all.

Hi guys!

Today is my new clean date. I've been through this time and time again previously but this time I think it's worse than it's ever been. I've gained 80lbs in a year. This is draining my funds. I'm scared, uncomfortable and feel hopeless.
If I don't stop drinking, I will die. I know it.

So, I need your support, okay? I'm fighting for my life.

Every day after work, I go to the gas station and pick up 3-4 four lokos and drink one on the way home, finishing them all in one night and wake up the next morning hating myself. What do you guys recommend to avoid hitting the gas station? I've tried turning the radio up and talking on the phone and self-talk all to divert my attention, but then I get so anxious that I exit to get to a gas station. I mean, I need help. Bad.

My wife and I set a solid foundation for our sobriety by going to AA meetings at drinking time. We did ninety meetings in ninety days--I still go to meetings two years later, but she does not. It's worth giving it a try at least!

Welcome sober nurse! Maybe write down the reasons that not drinking is to your benefit. And/or, list how you think drinking might be of help (for example, anxiety) and think of alternate ways to manage (or jump on here, tell us your thoughts and we'll help. Stay close

How late do you get off work? Its helpful to have another activity planned during the time we would normally drink

Welcome! What have you done in the past? Can you mix up the routine on the drive home? Have you tried any recovery methods? Rational Recovery worked best for me. Have you read about it?

coldfusion, i used to go to meetings daily and even held a chair position at my home group (i prefer NA over AA) but that was when i was living with a friend and didn't have a job. now i'm in nursing school and work at a hospital and have a five year old. i am out of the house from 6am-1030pm so it's incredibly hard for me to find time to go to meetings, although I'd love to go. I was actually thinking about taking my sorry butt back to my homegroup tonight after my daughter's pre-k graduation but since I grew up in that room, i'm really anxious about judgment. especially since i've gained so much weight. i don't know what else to do.

greens, i get out of class at 1030p and don't get home till about 1130. i get on average about 3 hours of sleep depending on how fast i can down all the alcohol. its like, i know how awful i look and feel, but the urge is just so great. my friend used to joke and say that i would be sober if it weren't for the creation of gas stations.

What recovery methods have you tried? rational recovery and AVRT work for me. Here's a link to the secular section with an explanation. It's long, but we'll worth the read. Maybe you could plan to read it each evening?
