Hey, y'all.
You deserve better.
It's right there in front of you. Reach out and grab it.
You can do this.
Welcome Sobernurse.
It's incredibly difficult at first I know but each time you fight that urge to pull over at the gas station and drink you'll feel a little more empowered to overcome this. It doesn't seem like it in the beginning but it will get easier. I would also suggest changing your route home if you can to avoid that trigger and definitely keep contact w/ that abusive ex husband to a minimum... Hard I know because you have a child together but until you build up your 'sober' muscles try to avoid as many triggers as you can.
Also stock up on your favorite non alc beverages and sip on one of those on your drive home. Posting and reading on SR or going for long walks were some of the things that helped me fight the urges in the beginning.
I gained 40lbs over the years of my drinking so I feel ya there. Losing the weight is just one of the many perks of being sober!

Well, here is another one from Texas. I am not on day 1 but am planning on being there on Monday. I'm going on a business trip and my sister is going with me (she knows I have been struggling for over a year to stop drinking). She is staying in my hotel room to keep me occupied. I figured a change of venue and routine is the best place to start. I'll be there for an entire week. (This is my first post).

Remember, just keep driving And if you have to stop for gas, just say: "Gas stations are for getting gas" Besides, don't they raise praises on things generally, due to it being a convenience store? So you can justify to yourself that you will only buy gas there and not food or drinks.
