Stay Sober Weekender Thread until 6/1
Brynn I used to take him on walks if you could call it that. We normally wouldn't get past the front yard be for traffic backed up from people wanting to meet the pig. He is too lazy now. Now he gets his excercise walking around the yard or playing kitchen guard.
Had a big long craving today so I took the suggestion of picking up caramel cone. Its fantastic! Did the trick.

I saw an advert for a camper van , remarkably cheap, it's gone now . I wonder if someone got a bargain or if it was a mistype as it seemed about £10000 undervalued at £6000 .
In london storage can be difficult for such a vehicle and sometimes people need money ..
Ahh well not to be this time , traveling to the seaside and drinking tea seemed most convivial .. having a stop and sleep on a long journey for a few hours ..
Maybe fun for the future

Us too. It is nice right now. My pepper plants and myself are getting some much needed rays. Tonight is another story.

Did Conquest say "Ruby" slippers? I'm back from Target. The weather is FOUL. Forties and raining. I'm freezing.
Brynn, it's the weather. Wandering around Target seeing reisling on sale for $3.99 a bottle. Tempting. I hate reisling. Sugar syrup. Then thinking I'm gonna down a bottle of red. Nope. Not that either. Not gonna happen. So, I'm going to drag the kids out in this foul weather and attend a gratitude dinner with an AA friend of mine because I need it. Just have to push myself to do what is counterintuitive. Because I'll have 18 months in monday and I'm nor wrecking it today for cheap sugar syrup.
So, Brynn, put the poker on hold for another day. Gambling and liquor. I always know when husband has been drinking by the number of scratch off lottery tickets I find strewn about.

Sorry the weather is so bad elsewhere.... It has been a wonderfully beautiful day here in Maine.
Sending you all sunny cool breezes and the sounds of rusting new leaves!!!!!!

Well that was a nice day to spend a rainy Saturday. Quality time with my dad and sister. I got a new book and treated them to dinner at an Italian restaurant. I was in a pasta coma.
Reflecting back on things with a cup of camomile tea. I suppose one thing I have learned from my alcoholism and recovery is that if you want to change, you have to be the change that's needed. And I have been told I've changed. Everyone I meet tells me that I look happy.

Glad to see that storms and gloom are passing and things are looking brighter for some of our folks here!
I had never heard of fried pickles before today. The things one learns at SR!

Cool to see everyone's success stories today. Nice job Ruby, just say "no" to that cheap wine. I do my best to completely IGNORE PRICES on liquor/booze/beer. Every time I find myself accidentally in the booze aisle I just look straight ahead and get out of there! Maybe I'm overly cautious, but it can't hurt.
Drinking and gambling go hand in hand for me as well. Zeus only knows how much money I lost in Vegas when I was on a particularly heavy binge. I then moved to online sports gambling. Between Vegas and the offshore online accounts, I blew my entire 401k before hitting rock bottom with both my health and finances. Well, I suppose not all of it was blown on gambling and booze: I used the last of it to pay for a couple ambulance rides and then rehab, and then it was gone.
We all have horror stories, and while we don't like to bring them to the forefront too often on this thread, it can be good to remember what will happen if we drink. Most of us aren't here because of one bad hangover. Stay strong folks and do what's right for yourselves!
Off to bed soon. Popcorn and some TV first. I'll be up "dark and early" to hit the airport pre-dawn...maybe I'll even beat Weasel to the post tomorrow!

That's why I read on this site: to be reminded of what would happen if I drank. And you are right bigs..I'm not here because of one hangover. I have found that it's easier to NOT be around booze...all of a sudden I have some new friends who don't drink. I wouldn't have been friends with them when I drank. A friend said the other day that she doesn't care if she never has another drink. Wow. To take it or leave it is Greek to me. But it's good for me to be around. Makes life easier.
Ruby...congratulations on 18 months. It's awesome! No more cheap (or expensive ) wine.
Sounds like people are enjoying the weekend. I'm loving it.
Now I'm going to watch American Sniper.

What?!?
Three things that SR has done for me:
Given me fantastic friends;
provided a major influence to my continuing sobriety; and
made Taylor Pork Roll and Coconut Sparkling Water an absolute necessity.

I felt sure there would be pages by the time I got back. I hope everyone is well. Thank you everyone!
It's still raining here. Pouring and I'm driving back on not well lit streets. The dinner was in the suburbs by a bunch of forest preserves. Sort of white knuckling it but we're home safe and sound. The venue is at a Gaelic place with an authentic (?) Pub. Two years in a row. Don't know why an AA dinner would be at such a boozy establishment but there you have it. And two weddings at the same time. People were in the pub watching the Blackhawk hockey game which is do or die.
BigS, have a safe trip.
Solarion, thank you for the song. I have that CD somewhere. Could cut yourself on the lead singer's cheekbones. Thought it was Matt Dillon for a second.
Time to yell at son to get to bed. I've already nicely asked. Numerous times.
