Drinking beer in the sun with friends

Aurrrgghhh. Today is the first day I missed out on an event like this and it stung.

I know I have to play the tape through, I know I'm not like other drinkers but today it was really hard to accept that I can no longer drink beer in the sun with friends. I really freaking miss it. Thanks for letting me vent :-)

I'm glad you got through the day. Sometimes it's harder than others, but good for you for sticking with recovery.

It's hard to get used to for sure. But rest assured that there are a multitude of ways to have fun in the sun without alcohol.

Sometimes, you just have to skip the party.

I wrote this fairly recently:

Hope it helps.

Don't look at it as missing out, see it as a wonderful gift you're giving yourself by eliminating all the shame and misery that comes from drinking. I look at my sobriety as value added to my life that I couldn't have when drinking.

I love living sober. I'm not missing a thing.

The few times I've thought about drinking beer in the sun, I remember the terrible headaches during and after, the feeling of being buzzed and bloated but continuing to drink, and then how awful I'd feel later on.

It was rarely as much fun as I thought it would be. And most times, when I felt like crap afterwards, I'd go out at night and get drunk so that I wouldn't care about how crappy I felt.

Good times.

Beer in the sun is actually no fun......your thirst does not get quenched and warm beer is gross. Corporate marketing from the likes of bud and coors are lying to the public w their funny, happy and cute Advertising. Now if the average person did that.....they'd go to jail. Lol go figure.

That is so true about drinking in the sun. I would have a headache when I would drink and this was before I had a problem. I would not worry about it. :-)

I spend a lot of my summer in Southern Europe and I find being drunk/hangover in the sun and the heat is awful. And I noticed women donīt drink much at all, they take one glass of wine but hardly even drink it. Where I come from (northern Europe), as soon as the sun shines, everybody has beer or wine. I will miss it, or how it was many years back when one glass was enough..

Well, I have some good memories of it so that's what I was dealing with today.

And now you have a memory of telling your addiction NO.

I find those memories much more valuable now.

Congrats on living a sober life!

It is hard. I find a lot of my good times involved drinking. My life revolved around it after all. My mindset soon changes when I think of the aftermath.
