Graduation party tomorrow

I have to attend a graduation party tomorrow at 4PM. This kid is awesome, he plowed snow for me all winter long and never complained a bit. I want to represent him "proudly". I dont want to show up drunk and have him say "yeah, that's my boss in the winter"

am I wrong?

why would you be wrong for wanting to be sober Jeff ?

It's the kids big day - it'd be really crappy if you lost it - I really can't see you doing that.

There's nobody on right now, as it's middle of the night in the West, and early morning in Europe. However, try clicking on the "Chat Room" link in the top bar later on, as there's usually some people in there to chat with.

Thomas, do what you just posted and then come back and say how well it went. Keep a picture of how well it is going to go in your mind

Show the kid what a mature man is!!

The 24 hour Recovery Connections thread is in the Newcomers Daily Support forum since it's an ongoing thread.

I think showing up sober would be fantastic. You could always call your local or national AA hotline too if you need someone to talk with immediately. Even if you aren't in AA or never plan to be they can help in a crisis.

it's a commitment thread - 24 hours of recovery - rather than a manned 24 thread tho...

there are downtimes on the forum, and we just have to work around them Jeff - try the chat room too

Do you have SR on your phone? Maybe get the app and check in. It would be a shame for you and the graduate if you were drunk. Would kinda take away from him and his day.

The first step for me was sobriety because all other decisions hinged on me staying sober. As long as I had one foot in the drinking world and one foot in the sober world I was destined to make bad decisions.

I think being sober for the graduation party is a good idea.

I also think being sober for your own sake is an even better idea. Wishing you the best today!

You can absolutely do this, Jeff. This young man is important to you; make a sober appearance; have a plan in place to leave the party if you feel triggered by alcohol during the party.

Have fun.
