new to this..
hey all, I'm not sure what I would write here.
I'm new to this forum, taking my first steps to recover from alcoholism that has so far ruined my life. I'm sick of having no money, no friends, constant guilt over my actions, and no control over my behavior. this has to stop, now, but I simply have no support system. my parents are not exactly forgiving or understanding and I've ruined any other support network I might have had around me, so I figured reaching out to others who have gone through this might put me in a better situation to move forward.
my psychiatrist is putting me on naltrexone starting tomorrow. does anyone have any experience with this medication? I'm skeptical of how it will work and worried about the side effects.

That is awesome! I have never used naltrexone but have heard great things about using it along with a recovery plan. Sounds like you are working with a psychiatrist and posting on here which is awesome. The more support you have in the beginning the better
Good to meet you ephemeralrift - welcome to a great place for encouragement.
You sound ready to ditch the misery and begin living. We have to be ready to admit it's bringing us nothing but sadness. You can do this - please continue to read and post. We will help.

thanks to everyone for their encouragement.
this medication is expensive, $4/pill! still, less than I was spending on alcohol weekly, so I suppose it's an improvement. suppose I will keep people updated on my findings since not many seem to have experience with it.
