New here!

Hi,

I have been looking here for a while and just registered. My drinking has to stop. I am scarred that I have damaged my body so that it never will repair itself after about 5 years of a lot of wine and before that I was also drinking but to a lesser extent. I just donīt understans how I will be able to stop for good. I go a few days, I think 6 days is my record this year. I have two lovely kids, a good job, I should be enjoying life not wasting it away. I always feel great after a few sober days, once the insomnia goes away. Why do I always ruin it by drinking again?

Welcome, Teresia!

I had to really work on my sobriety. I went to an in-patient detox, then did ninety AA meetings in ninety days. Have you made a plan for sobriety?

Hi Teresia - welcome

there's not a lot logical about addiction...we may have every reason not to drink but we do it anyway...

Support can make a huge difference tho - reach out when you need help

I'm really glad you found us.

Hi Teresia. Welcome to SR. You have come to the right place. There are a lot of good people here that will give you loads of advice.

You don't have to understand how you can stop for good - you only have to stop for today. Tomorrow will be a new today - and then you only have to stop for that day.

Good luck and best wishes.

Thanks. I am currently working from home, but will go to the office later. I think staying busy is the key for me. I drink when lonely and bored. It really doesnīt help :-) Also thinkI will take up excersising more, have been running and going to the gym, but it is alway interrupted by hangovers and insomnia. I read somewhere it can help with cravings. Today I am resting, but tomorrow I will take a slow run in the woods. I used to enjoy that a lot a few years back.

Hey T, HALT (Hunger, Anger, Tiredness, Loneliness) is an acronym to the trigger feelings that cause us to drink.

Exercise definitely helps to keep the blood flowing and the benefits are great.

Welcome! When I was in early recovery I used to walk my dogs a lot. If I got a craving to drink, I walked my dogs. They got a lot of walks and I stayed sober!
