A symbolic gesture

I went out this morning and planted two vegetable plants: zucchini and sweet bell peppers. It is the first time I have planted anything since I was a little girl. Back then I planted a strawberry plant in the back yard. My drunken father ran over it with his car. I don't know if he did it on purpose or not, but it broke my heart. When I protested to him, he smacked me in the face and told me to shut up. I never wanted to plant anything ever again.

So, today is a new day. A day of hope and growth and all the things that growing plants represent. Another step toward healing the past.

Cultivate away Art... Is this your "new" thread? I'm wanting to start an ongoing journal like others have done (day 1 for me again), but not sure what to title it. This post has that "re-invent-one's-self " feel to it. Thanks for posting.

No it's not an ongoing journal type thread. Just a single thread, but related to a new life I am trying to cultivate. You can start a journal thread Annataboy.... starting anew

That happened to me with several things when younger. I understand completely and thought I was the only one.

You have an aversion then after. Let me see, well my art is one thing. I spent a lot off time doing this b & w drawing.

Used to do a bit in every other class I wasn't interested in, it was my most committed art project ever, on a big sheet.

Anyway, it disappeared from my bedroom and I had to assume my parents threw it out. I never drew again after that.

Loads of examples like that here I just woke up. Thanks for that, we are validated. Enjoy the gardening now ArtFriend.

Good for you!

I had to get over something I really enjoyed that was ripped away when I was young as well, but now that it's back in my life I am 2000% happier than I was before.

I hope the same for you.

(I was going to post a hug smiley, but the flowers seems to match the garden theme!)

I'm trying to find my place here in Asia... the base will be in Singapore, but right now I'm in another city. I've been looking for apartments in Singapore though, and there is a good possibility I will get this lovely place with a large balcony... If so, I will start a herb garden, ... herbs I know from the West, to start with.
