It is in my music.

OK ...I had to change my music choice for now.
I was a country music person but with every other song having something about alcohol in it I had to change. I am trying to keep drinking OUT of my mind not bellowing out the lyrics of partying with it.
Yes I am weak right now but at least I know it.

I hear you. When I became a Christian and changed my lifestyle, I had to get rid of 90% of my old music. Not because it was sinful, per se--but because it really wasn't doing me any favors

I remember doing that as well. I can listen to it again. Give it time.

Yeah, in early sobriety all I listened to was classical and Christian music - I needed something that lifted me up.

I can listen to the other stuff now, though. Early sobriety is a fragile time.

Interesting discussion. I also had to change my taste in music. Like biminiblue I also listened to Christian and classical in early recovery. I can now listen to about anything except dance music which I loved before but now can still trigger me. Plus, now that I'm not drunk and/or high it actually doesn't interest me that much anymore.

I've had to stop listening to music where band members OD'd. Certain music makes me want to use and self destruct. But I'm still early in recovery.

I had to give up lots of music for a while no longer a problem, but it was the smart thing to do at the time!it Also forced me to look Into new (and old) bands!

definitely couldn't listen to the songs that had "spoken" to me the most. for quite a while. whether they had booze in them or not.
seems my most intense emotions were all connected to wanting to drink.
