Our liver won't last forever...
My friend just flew down to Florida to say goodbye to her young brother. He only has 2-3 days to live.
He's an alcoholic who had one too many parties. One too many drinks for too many years. :-( 11 months ago he found out he had severe cirrhosis of the liver. No warning. Just woke up and bam...liver shot. He was healthy otherwise.
Anyway, the doctors said he could be a candidate for a liver transplant if he stayed sober for 12 months. He has been sober for 11 months but it's too late, his body isn't going to last another 30 days...only 2-3.
Please pray for Steve and his family. :-(
I guess our livers can only take so much. They say "livers rejuvenate and heal quickly" but I've seen so many people die of liver failure at extremely young ages. (From ages 21-40)

Very sorry to hear that.
Shocking and so sad. We all think it won't happen to us… until it does.
Happened 'out of the blue' to an acquaintance of mine too, mid 30-s. she left 3 children. There's apparently a lot of variability into how much punishment people's livers can take, and you just might never know until it's too late.

He was right too - just don't let it get that far!!!
I knew that was where I was headed and it's why I stopped. All ok with me, and I am so so grateful for my ridiculously good health. Honestly, the thought of zapping my liver is what really prompted me to put down the bottle.
This has been haunting me all day. We all need to embrace our sobriety and live each day to the fullest. I know someone who recently passed from drinking to excess, it's sad. It also makes me think about a friend of my husbands who was hospitalized last year from an alcoholic induced coma. He's still alive and as far as I know, he is still drinking. It's a killer.
This thread has also made me think about smoking. That is a killer too, I think I will give it up after this weekend (I still have a whole pack, I know, excuses excuses! )
