Day 5 Will I ever sleep right again?
Day 5 Will I ever sleep right again?
I an on day 5. I know that is not much for a lot of you but it is difficult for me. At 4:00 my brain think "drinking time is almost here" and when I make it to the end of the evening saying one more day done without a drink. Then I am faced with a night of tossing and turning and my mind going 100 miles an hour. Did you have this also? Did it end for you? At what time? I am staying strong but so very tired.
Thanks, Rainbug
Thanks, Rainbug
Rainbug, day 5 is a huge accomplishment! Congratulations!
The sleep patterns do get better over time. For some, they return to a more normal pattern within a couple of weeks, and others it takes longer. It took me quite a while to get back to sleeping for more than 4 - 5 hours straight. But the way I look at it is being tired after a sober night is way better than being hung over and in a fog the next day, just waiting for my next drink.
Hang in there, your efforts now will be so worth a better life. It does get easier, trust me!
Congrats again on 5 days.

Early sobriety can be an extremely difficult time, you just have to accept it and move forward. It will be worth it.

Welcome to the family. Yes, it does get better, tho it might take some time. My sleep got better after a month or so. Give yourself a chance to heal. Give it some time. It will get better as long as you stay sober.
Hi Rianbug, Yes I had sleep problems. I think most of us did. It gets way better. Hang in there. Can you exercise at all? Do something to wear yourself out. Reading before bed worked wonders for my racing thoughts. Just pick something nice and calm to read. Hang in there.

I am also on day 5 and I have been taking very long walks in the evening, and it has really helped. In fact, I had the best nights sleep last night in as long as I can remember (and I suffer from chronic insomnia). For me, the walking also helps calm the racing thoughts. Good luck!
