Unhappy Newbie here... Will by skin EVER stop itching?

Hi, I'm new here. I went into a 28day treatment centre and finished two weeks ago. I have picked up a drink twice since and feeling awful about it but I am back on my program, one day at a time and speaking to all the right people, etc. however, the cause of serious frustration now is the itchy skin!oily skin!restless feeling and trying to study for my nursing exams all at the same time! Please please please help!

Hi LClaire1 and welcome.

My skin would itch too when I was drinking and withdrawing. It finally stopped when I was able to get some good sober time under my belt. Its very common and I believe it has a lot to do with nerve endings. There is something called Alcoholic neuropathy that many of us experience.

In my case, it has almost reversed in 4 months sober.

Hi Claire, I had itchy skin too when I quit and it did resolve. I'm not sure how long it took, but I do know it got better.

Welcome to SR. If you need support, come post here.

Welcome to the family. Itchy skin is common in early recovery but it does get better. Give it time. Rest and good food. Your body is healing, give it some time.

Hi Claire! The itching drove me crazy in the beginning also. I used an oatmeal body lotion to ease it. The drug store has a number of lotions specifically designed for itchy skin (brand Gold Bonds). Gold Bonds does a really good job. It's medicated so it has a cooling menthol scent/feel.

I also had the itchy skin. I didn't realize it was a symptom of withdrawal until way after it was over. Lotion and lots of water. I didn't know how dehydrated I was either.

It does go away, hang in there.

Good to meet you LClaire. I did have that problem for about 2 mos. on and off. It went away all together eventually.

Congratulations on your new sober life.

I had it too. Think it lasted about 2 weeks. Aveeno baths help.....
Good luck!
