Drinking and drugging it gone.....

Many of us who have struggled with addiction have a story that includes emotions, situations, circumstances, thoughts and memories we tried to blot out, destroy, drink and drug away.

But how many of us have a story of succeeding at making any of it actually go away by drinking and drugging?

In my own story, efforts to drink and drug away the feelings and the circumstances only ever led to the feelings and the circumstances becoming magnified or getting intensely worse.

It probably seems pretty simple and obvious - but I also think it's worth a good hard look at.

Is there even a SINGLE example in the history of addiction where drinking and drugging made it 'go away'?

Probably won't go over well with this crowd, but folks like Elvis Presley, Jim Morrison, and John Lennon seemed to excel being drunk & high as could be.

Well, if asked whether or not their drinking and drugging ever made the problems go away, I think the answer would have been a resounding "H to the No".

Ive heard ppl say a brief respite but it isnt its a trap under leaves with a hole to get out of

i havnt relapsed but ive seen many who have & some even died (thats a hole no one gets out of)

Point im making is its not a respite there is no joy that is a myth that is woken up sharply with reality

Exellent post FreeOwl (its raining heavily where i am proper non stop lashing rain)

It may briefly delay dealing with something difficult, but it never makes it go away and I think it always ends up making things worse.

No, because problems are real. Being drunk or high merely alters reality for the user. The problems remain when you sober up - always.

It was all there again in the morning, with the added bonus prize of a hangover!!

The old alcohol induced delusion of not having any problems joke. The punchline is always the the same.

Totally agree. Phrases NEVER said:

"Things got better when I started drinking again"
"My life improved once I began using drugs again"
"Today I pay my rent on time, thanks to my alcohol abuse"
"I've never been as healthy as I am now, thanks to drugs"

The list goes on and on. Things only get worse when you add drugs and alcohol. Every. Single. Time.
