When I was drinking I didn't need an excuse, the fact it was a Tuesday evening was enough!!
There's always going to be days/events we associate with drinking, New Years, Xmas, birthdays, weddings, funerals, here in Ireland, St Patricks day!!
But we're now non drinkers going about our lives differently!!
Hang in there!!

Lemonade slushies sound really good. That sounds more refreshing than alcohol.
Why should it matter that it's Cinco de Mayo? I just googled it and what I read says it's now a bigger holiday here in the U.S. than it is in Mexico. Co-opted by the liquor industry? It's not even Mexican independence day. Cinco de Mayo commemorates a battle victory over the French who had invaded Mexico to collect a debt.
Go with the slushie and enjoy the sobriety. Instead of the inevitable headache one gets from drinking on a hot day.

Shut up, AV? That is very mild compared to what I have said to my AV. You don't even want to know. Curse like a (formerly) drunken sailor, I do.
Whatever works, I say.
Have a happy and productive Cinqo de Mayo, Nofearnobeer.

Ruby2..Thank you for pointing that out. I have known that for quite some time. It is truly a ridiculous "holiday"...I am a bartender and have to work tonight. So not looking forward to it and need all of the good vibes/prayers I can get...I need to get a new job..Pronto

Ceefaro...Good luck tonight! Stay strong!
I appreciate everyone's input here...
And yeah , somehow a lemonade slushy sounds dang good! (minus the Absolute of course)..
In 8 more days , it will be my 6-month mark...Just another stepping stone , but one I'd sure like to get to...

I have Mexican food on the brain today.
However, im on my nutrisystem program
to get ready for our Sturgis Bike Week Trip
come August.
Even tho I have all my meals picked out
to follow each day, I set aside one day
out of the week which is Fridays to splurge
on whatever I want to eat.
I can always find something healthier
to take the place of trying to kill myself
with alcohol or poisonous substance.
For holidays I try to treat them just
like another sober day. Ive realized that
many of our holidays are blown so far
out of proportion that its ridiculous.
So much hulavabalu whith alcohol
involved that it takes away from the
history and meaning of that holiday.
Anyway, find something simple
and enjoyable to do today an be
forever grateful that it was not
blow away with a drunken episode.
Me, I got some Begonia's from Home
Depote and Walmart to plant in a pot
to brighten up my yard.
They look like Roses, one in a red color and
the other, coral. BEAUTIFULL..!!!!

I assumed it was Mexican independence day.
I will be sur to stay home tonight so I can stay off of the roads.
I don't want to drink a 24 pack during warm weather, baseball games, etc. I just stick with my carbonated waters, diet soft drinks and H2O.
Man, If I can't get through Cinco de Gringo my program is pretty lousy............
I have had some self pity over not drinking in my first year, but this frat boy booze fest isn't one of them!!
What's next!!!
Ahh, Mothers day Sunday - now there's one I use to drink on .......errr, ah - on behalf of my wife of course cause she doesn't imbibe!
All who are sober today are Winners@@@
I say happy 6th of May, unhindered in thought or spirit and not hung over with heart palpitations!!!

AO, now that had me laughing!! Whenever I was on the pity pot when I was a kid, my mother used to reference the "eating worms" thing.
Good job nofear on six months! That's huge!
I also want to point out that as you go through your first year of sobriety you will also go through many firsts associated with drinking that will be hard. First warm day of yard work. First memorial day weekend. First fourth of July. First Labor Day. You get my drift. Just keep doing what you're doing and be prepared for that little voice that says it's OK.
